Does it make more sense too book before I travel or once I get to Cancun and have made loads of new friends? ]
I've done it both ways. I've booked online and had it all setup, and I've booked it once I am there. I don't think many Temptation folks do the party hopper. We've switched to just going with the staff every night to the club of the night.
