    Hi
haven't been to Cancun for 2 years - any suggestions for new places to try? Or even old places? last time down town was pretty dead - anything new (dinner places) their? I will be there for my birthday and would love a great evening!

Not really much in the way of new places downtown. Plaza Las Americas is twice the size it was 2 years ago with lots of restaurants so maybe an evening out there might be worthwhile.

The legendary Centro (Downtown) restaurant La Habicheula opened a Hotel Zone location that is to die for called La Habichuela Sunset. Unfortunately La Dolce Vita closed, but the same folks who own Harry's Prime Steakhouse opened Fred's House, their new seafood restaurant. The restaurant El Shrimp Bucket closed, but La Dolce Vita opened their new establishment Savio's in its place. In case you missed it, you may want to try a great restaurant that specializes in regional Mexican fare called Calenda Oaxaca. The restaurant is located next door to the Plaza La Fiesta across from the Convention Center. Next to Basic (nightclub) is a newish restaurant called Splash, that specializes in tacos and basic Mexican fare. Another notable closing is Pat O'Brien's, which will be missed... but like it has been doing for years, Cancun keeps reinventing itself. I can go on and on, but I think I'll quit here and give someone else a chance to put their two centavos in.

FYI...Harrys and Freds House are part of the Anderson Group which also owns Senor Frogs and Carlos and Charlies. They also owned the Shrimp Bucket.
