I have heard rumors that the Royal Mayan Is closing. Is that true? We have reservations in January and hoping there is not a problem. I also heard there is a lot of construction there. Is that true? Thanks, Dawg:lurking:
The resort was sold. It is a timeshare resort and owners there will receive residuals from the sale. I don't think owners can book there after the first few weeks of 2014. I don't know who purchased the property or what their plans are for the property.
If it's Hyatt that bought them... This was the first week they have been part of the old Royal Cancun (Real Resorts), and I heard it's been nothing but a mess. No one is happy. Now called Hyatt Zilara. Some members were happy for bigger catalog of resorts, other are pissed at the lack of compassion and service.
The OP is asking about the Royal Mayan which is part of the Royal Resorts. It is slated to end as a Royal timeshare sometime in 2014. And, as has been said, its Members will receive 'something' from the sale just as the owners of the Vacation Club International (VCI), now Royal Cancun (KM 5), did a couple of years ago. I have not heard anything about who may have bought it. The Royal in Cancun (KM 11.5), which was a Real Resort, is now known as the Hyatt Zilara. Any wonder why tourists are confused?
According to a poster at TA: "CancunCrew 5. Re: Royal Mayan? Jul 04, 2013, 7:56 PM Sibra Diestra Group purchased the Royal Mayan $40,200,000. Have heard they own hotels through out Mexico and plan on operating the Royal Mayan as is....but that is just what we have heard about their plans, sorry but I have no facts on the plans for the resort."
