I have found it very convenient to find vets here, but I have a hard time trusting them with my babies. We have been blessed with good health for the most part, but the couple of times I had to visit a vet I’ve noticed that I am always questioning their practices because in the States there was always an expensive test needed to diagnose the problem. Things here are a lot more simple and less expensive, but I’m always scared something might go undiagnosed. So what have been your experience? Any good recommendations? Hi Susy. My favorite and current vet is Erica Altbach Sanchez. She works a LOT with the strays, and thats how I met her to begin with (Shes multilingual in Spanish, English and French.) Her clinic is on the way to Puerto Juarez. This is her number: 998 734 9687 Im also happy to support her as she puts such a huge amount of her own time and money into helping the strays in Cancun. I live across the street from Dr Najar and his clinic. He has helped me a few times when I have found stray cats/dogs in very bad shape. His clinic is located on Av Sunyaxchen, just next to Hotel Suites Gaby - literally a stone-throw from Market 28. He is also very passionate about the stray-problem and does a lot to help out. Phone: 998 884 0889 I have friends who go to Mundo Animal(next to Burger King in Plaza Avenidas) and they are happy with the service. Its a pet-shop, but they also have very good Vets working upstairs.(Dont have their number, sorry) Hope this helps
We usually use a Cuban couple located off of Avenida Chichen Itza. They're really great with animals and have been a huge help during several emergencies. I don't have their number on me, but I'll try to post it tomorrow. I've had great experiences at Mundo Animal, especially their Avenida La Luna location. I'd probably recommend this place more for expats, since it's more of a professional atmosphere. One of our dogs had surgery there, and everything was great. They're also a pet store and a grooming salon. (Downsides: You can't make an appointment, and you can expect a bit of a wait.) We worked mostly with Dr. Vania, who is amazing. Numbers and locations are here: Mundo Animal - Quienes Somos The only bad vet experience we've had was with a Dr Henderson (across the road from Paseo Cancun). I found out a friend of mine had a similar bad experience with him as well. In both cases, our dogs had very bad reactions to shots he had given them.
I take my babies to Pet's Veterinaria on Tulum near the bus station, next to the Comercial Mexicana. Been going there since arriving in Cancun and have no complaints. They do speak some English if that is an issue. AV TULUM 33 COL: SM 2 C.P.: 77500 CANCUN QUINTANA ROO TEL: (998)884-9828 TEL: (998)887-6163
I took my doggies to the same place Canuck does. Also had no issues and one of the dogs got spayed there. The vet actually picked Lulu up at our house because we didn't have a car. They also made a house call to give the dog shots once. It went very well except Leo got so excited that he peed on the fan while it was on.
I second Dr Najar and his clinic on Av Sunyaxchen. Phone: 998 884 0889 He was referred to us a little over eight years when we brought our first Mexican kitten back to the States. We have been back to him a number of times since and now for our pup's health certificate when we return to the States. We really like his manner with our babies, he genuinely seems to love them and his knowledge and diagnoses haven't missed yet!
Can I branch off on this for some feedback..... So I brough my Dezzie here with me back in 2009 from the US. I take him back with me when ever I go and the Healthcerts are REALLY starting to put a dent in the account at a min of $99 each...and that's if no vacines are needed. When going to the US all they want to see is that he is alive and up to date on his rabbies. It's bringing the pup into Mexico where the real cost comes in. If I am living here and have an FM3, and I am just going to the US for 5-10 days, can't a MX health cert from the vet here beore I leave work just the same????? Does that make sense??????
Tor - I get what you're saying, but nope - not good enough. Gill who is Mexican can't bring Kiara in without all the paper work! I can't believe you are charged $99 for your certificate back home? I thought my $50 fee was outrageous...Especially when they see her 4 times a year, LOL!!
