We are wondering what the food situation is like. He is allergic to gluten, I never eat sugar or refined flour. Will there be anything we can eat? We called booking to ask. The said the didn't know about gluten free. When we asked if there was steak, they said some of that we could be upsold something nicer. How prevalent is this? We are kind of worried, and considering going somewhere else.
Sorry to show my ignorance, as I don't know too much about a gluten free diet, but all I can say is that there is a lot of choice, and the staff are willing to help where they can. We have been with friends, and he was VERY fussy about what he ate, and usually asked for a steak, plain, no sauce, dressing or anything, and always got this, with a smile. Steak is available at the Italian, and the TexMex, and is delicious! (No extra cost). :daisy:
There is a wide variety of food at the resort. I can't imagine that you would not be able to avoid gluten and refined flour/sugar if you were motivated to do so. Certainly you are no worse off in that department at Temptation than you would be at any other resort in Mexico, at least the several others I have been to.
There was a surf and turf in the seafood restaurant that was to die for. Portions were small, but if you want more steak, just ask. Can't help with the gluten free, but Karen is right, there is sooooo much to chose from that you shouldn't have a problem.
There's definitely steak at dinner, burgers or skewer stuff at lunch usually (ditch the bun)... You'll be fine.
we just got back and was surprised to see food at buffet (quite good buffet) labelled "gluten free". enjoy! Honestly the food was far better than our all inclusive expectations, everything was very good.
My hubby is celiac and this will be our 4th or 5th time going to the resort since finding out. He's had no problem so far. I believe in Mexico they tend to use corn flour for thickeners and such instead of wheat flour. Robbie eats alot of fish, rice, fruits and veggies. There are Spanish travel cards that you can print out that explains the gluten sensitivity. I found it worked well in the a la carte restaurants. I don't think you'll go hungry at all. D
Most places are able to work with gluten free and as far as I know it should be corn based so you should be fine.
Yes, I saw food labeled 'gluten free' three weeks ago when we were there, did not see that during the previous three visits. You can get eggs made to order in the morning, and you can get hamburgers without the bun, plus steak without any sauces. Be mindful that most of the staff speak/understand limited English. Asking complicated questions will yield frustration. Bring your own salad dressings, if you can, and anything else, like sugar free drink mixers (Baja Bob's has a lot of powdered sugar free mixers and they are easy to travel with). Avoid sauces and dressings, and stick to meat and veggies and you'll be fine.
