    V,

This article has reader comments starting back in 2006. There are a few things I would call out of date plus the obvious error that "city center" is nowhere near the intersection of Tulum and Uxmal. The writer states that Cancun is divided into two area, city center and the HZ. We should take her to Va Q' Va. Lol

What difference does it make, T.J.?

The article is nice to read because of the favorable view it takes of Cancun, and to know that it is written by a group that is heavily invested in Merida, and promotes it as "the place to be".

For them to appreciate Cancun as warmly as they do is significant.

People have continued to comment on the article through the years since it was written, with the most recent being in 2011; and I, for one, enjoyed reading it, in 2012!

I always considered Tulum and Uxmal to be the city center... it's about where city hall is, as well as the main city park, several other government-run areas/buildings, the city bus station and tons of banks.

I agree...that is what I have always thought of as the city center. I think Cancun has spread out so much in the past several years so it may not be the actual center but that is still how I think about it.

I strolled around some of those very places you mentioned, last evening.

Parque de las Palapas was jumping. Church was just letting out, there was a calypso band playing, and the park was full of people, listening to the band, eating, and generally enjoying an inexpensive, family night out.

Parque de las Palapas, and Av Yaxchilan, actually played a role in our decision to give Cancun a try: it suggested to us that there was some kind of a community life here, aside from the high dollar establishments of the HZ.

Malecon Cancun, and the development of the area near the bull ring as a new entertainment center for the city cannot replace that which was meant for the masses, at Parque de las Palapas; and, Av Yaxchilan, with La Taberna, Los Arcos, and La Parilla, will be special to me until they cease to exist, because they formed part of my introduction to the community.

Maybe you guys are right. I interpreted the post as dividing Cancún into two geographic areas, the HZ and El Centro. City Center would be as Gringation and a Cancun Fun describe. My observation is that the Uxmal/Tulum intersection is far from the "geographical center" of Centro, aka Downtown. I admit to the practical error but not to the technical aspect of my post. LOL

Where would you all describe as being the approximate geographical center of Downtown?

Just by looking at google maps, it seems that Kabah and Lopez Portillo would be the center.
