Take a bunch of US dollar bills for tips, also people say that the $20 pesos bill does better in the water and they give those out for tips. I don't think pounds would work very well for tips, would be difficult for the staff to exchange them.

    Hiya,

We've always taken US $ but I can't remember why, we have to take Mexican peso this year. Not sure if it's a UK thing or what. Will have a look and let you know. We don't take much cash though tbh, we just take it out of the cashpoints, we get a really good rate and a really small charge with Barclays.

Last year we booked with Thomas Cook and we had a leaflet in the pack about it.

Pesos had to be ordered in, couldn't just get them over the counter in the UK, so the currency was all high value notes ($500s, $200s and $100s), and we struggled to get them changed down for smaller notes to leave as tips.

It was a pain when we first arrived out of the airport, because there wasn't really a chance to get them changed, and we had nothing small enough to tip with at first. We're going to get some lower value dollar bills as well as Pesos next time, so that we have money with us right away to tip with.
