Did Cancun back in the day three times; 2002, 2003 and 2004. Once for senior year high school spring break and once for the first two years of college -- toward the end of the MTV spring break days. I don't even remember having a cell phone the first one or two times. Then I went again in 2012. In those days, I stayed at the Intercontinental Presidente (which had the best beach in Cancun as I recall) and the Marriott (which is now an all-inclusive). Haven't been back since. Now, I'm returning as I turn 40. I remember Cancun having changed a lot between 2004 and 2012. I swore I would never go again. Too commercialized and Las Vegas-esque. But an amazing, last-minute airfare deal changed my mind. $3,000 for 10 nights in an oceanfront king with a balcony at The Westin (admittedly a little tired) and $600 for round-trip business-class airfare was better than anywhere else in Mexico or the Caribbean. In the years since my college days, I've went from going to Mardi Gras nights at Pat O'Brien to see boobs to drinking $150 bottles of wine at white tablecloth restaurants. Obviously, things have changed since 2012 but it looks like the core things in Cancun are pretty much the same. Pre-book a private airport transfer, do a Walmart run, don't look for trouble, etc. I also imagine credit cards are more widely taken now thereby eliminating the need for me to carry a bunch of cash. I assume Uber is now the best option for going from hotel to Walmart? I assume Walmart has the best selection and best prices for wine. Like good wine. I'm open to some Mexican reds, but prefer French. In my experience elsewhere in Mexico, Mexican whites are cheaper blends, Mexican reds are very good, and everything else (like champagne) that is imported is very expensive. Is there a VIP service to skip the line at the airport? I land around 12 pm which almost certainly is the beginning of peak arrival times. And what about departing? I have all the major credit cards that come with lounge access. Is there a good airport VIP/frequent flyer lounge? If I wanted to re-live my Pat O'Brien Mardi Gras days of 2002-2004, where's the spot these days? I'm also lifestyle curious but I'm a single male and don't want to be a creeper. I assume Tinder and Bumble besides Temptations or Desire are the best options? Sorry for all the random Qs.
I don't know about what apps to use but single guys are welcome at temptations and there will be some hotwives on the prowl. The single guys that get a bad reputation would be the groups that probably get too drunk and obnoxious. Transportation - I think what we used was something called US transfers. They will be holding a sign with your name at the airport and take you to the hotel.
