If this remark is intended to be addressed to those living here, then... Services of almost any kind you want to mention can frustrate anyone: they are not well developed here and require you to do what Mexicans do, rely on your network, then be patient.... Normal levels of customer service are lacking at practically all retail outlets, with the U.S. based chains coming closest to delivering service as you are accustomed to but still falling short. Anyone who will not tolerate a 50% drop in customer service and quality without blowing should not try to live here (unless as a penance, or for opportunities to practice zen).
Quintana Roo- Cancun and the Riviera Maya are different places for the tourist That's why I like to go out to Isla Mujeres or stay overnight at an AI even though I live here- then I'm a tourist and can forget about the challenges of living here day to day Restaurant food quality and service in the city are amazingly hard to maintain it seems: I know one operator who would think he'd gone to heaven if he could find staff that would carry out their duties well and consistently- and not steal from him and the customers in every way they can conceive
WOW... 13 days and counting til arrival...I have never been to Cancun so I am curious and can hardly wait to see what the culture and atmosphere is like. From everything I have read I will either love it or hate it, I guess only time will tell. However, if I can handle Erbil, Iraq, Herat, Afghanistan and S Sudan, Africa this should be a walk in the park.
Wademan, your question left us wondering if you were planning to live here, or coming down on a holiday. Almost 100% of those who come to Qunitana Roo for a vacation can't wait to get back. It's a lovely part of the world, and if you've got money to spend you can have an amazing time, enjoying the sight of the Caribbean Sea and sand, and swimming in its warm waters. For those with an interest in the historical, there's the Mayan Kingdom and the ruins that fill the jungles of the Yucatan, Guatemala, Belize and Honduras. Tourism is booming here, and it's well deserved.
V, I am wondering that myself.. I have been self employed since 1996, you might say I'm an entrepreneur. I am coming down Sept 3rd with eyes and ears wide open for an opportunity. How long I stay I guess, depends on if I like it and can continue to support myself while there. Thanks for your reply.
