Does the punishment fit the crime?

  1. Yes, he should have filed like I had to do

  2. No, the sentence is too harsh and out of proportion

He failed to file taxes for 3 years and the prosecutor asked for 1 year for every year that he didn't file.

He had no prior criminal record prior to this case.

I think he should pay his back taxes with a penalty and interest ...

but 3 years seems harsh to me.

I haven't kept up with the details, did he knowingly not file, or did he have an accountant who was supposed to be taking care of his finances?

I think its a bit extreme, would a normal everyday person get a 3 year sentence? I doubt it to be fair I think its a case of them making a point.... although Tax evasion IS how they got capone

He had "advisors" "advising him. They were telling him that he didn't have to file as the government had no right to collect taxes....the same argument that we have all heard over the years....

The reason that the prosecutors asked to make him an example is because not only did his "advisors" convince him that he didn't need to pay taxes, but his own freak'in lawyers representing him in the tax case filed that same non-sense as his defense!!!

If that ain't dumber than dumb, I don't know what is.

3 years is NOT a normal sentence for someone who has NO prior background and no real harm done. He offered to pay up prior to sentencing, but they rejected the offer because they didn't feel it was offered in good faith, but only to avoid a prison term.

Oh....an in case anyone was wondering....no, he cannot file bankruptcy to discharge the debt. He has to pay it in full....which should be no problem for him.....which leads me to beleive that that is why they wanted the prison term.

Trying to get away with not paying taxes is rather dumb by any measure.
There have been laughable schemes and outrageous theories on how not to pay taxes for many decades – none of which are valid.
Bottom line – the only thing certain is death and taxes!

Obviously, the government wanted to make an example of him because of his high profile.
I don't feel sorry for him, he deserves what he got.

How much did he make a movie? 10-11 million?
Sorry, but the only "Blade" he's going to feel is that plastic jailhouse razor (or maybe a shank!!!)
