I was doing my usual bored as ever internet stalking, and I can across this article from December....a movie about college girls being kidnapped by a drug cartel in Cancun while on a break.... WHY CANCUN? Taylor Lautner spends time in 'Cancun'
Why not? From a marketing point of view, this is great for the makers of the movie, as pretty much EVERYONE knows about Cancun. Im guessing its also targeted at American viewers...? Its up to people to separate real from fiction, something that for example is astonishingly hard for people who follow "news channels" such as FOX etc... Im sure more will be said about this... Also, the Mexican side has the chance to say "NO", but Hollywood $ knocking on the door - done deal... Remember "Man on fire" with Denzel and Dakota Fanning? The kidnapping-drama/action that took place in DF. Now, Im not saying I like the idea, but the makers are smart with this one.
Oh yeah kung-fu karate chops are going to work on a drug cartel...I love that. It looks like a dumb movie with a dumb plot.
But with an Actor that allllll the tweens and teens love. We all know, people don't care about what parts of the Country are having the problems, they will hear Cancun, and associate it with what's going on. Mexico is Mexico in alot Americans minds....I don't like it no matter how it gets spun. But Kim...I thought the same thing. It is the Actor and his Father that own th eProduction Co that is doing it. I hope it is a big flop.
