    Ok, here's a doozy...

We need to register for our wedding soon, but the only places we know of here are department stores (namely Liverpool and Chapur). However, what we really need is basic stuff for the kitchen, living room and bath, which can be bought much cheaper elsewhere. We don't want to ask our guests to pay that much for a microwave/pans/towels, etc.

Walmart and Sams don't do registry.

Does anyone know of any other place that does gift registry in Cancun?

    What to do??

    Tough one....

I wonder how the Mexicans handle this? Maybe they have a traditional coordinator for this, like the mother of the bride or groom....

Well, apparently they all just register at Liverpool... which is what we ended up doing yesterday. We tried to avoid it because we really just wanted cheap, basic stuff. Anyway, Liverpool ended up being not as expensive as I'd thought (kind of), so it turned out alright :)

I think gift registry is a semi-new concept here, but now people do it all the time, especially for baby showers.

Liverpool and Sears are about it I think. Sears is good if you've got people coming in from out of Mexico (or who can't make it!), the registry is international and you can shop from anywhere with delivery here (I believe).

    Happy shopping!

How about registering at Liverpool, Chopur and Sears and if someone sees something they like, then they at least know what you want. Then cannot they go to wherever they want to buy the gift?

I guess you run the risk of duplicate gifts. But could you not take a Liverpool gift, for example, and exchange it for something on your registry that you did not get? Your friends will understand.

Not that long ago I bought a wedding gift for the kitchen at Liverpool, and when I go to the home where it ended up, I don't know if it was the one I bought or not. At least the guys buying gifts will probably be in that same boat.

Here in Cancun do the stores even offer a gift receipt so that the item could be returned for a problem or for an exchange?

Just a couple of off the cuff thoughts.

    Congratulations.

Thanks to everyone for the advice! We ended up registering for some basic stuff at Liverpool. I'm sure some people will just buy the same thing somewhere else for less, which is fine with me!

Like TJ said, I can always just return it in case of duplicates (since Liverpool has me in their system and will know what people bought, regardless of a receipt), so it's all good! :)
