    Okay, I have a question.

I was wondering who here did web page design....either professionally or as a hobby. I know there are a few.

This is whats the deal. At our church, me and another teen youth leader are going head-to-head on a weight loss mission. We will be raising money for missionaries abroad by people in our church, teens and adults pledging so much money per pound. We plan to go for a few months on this deal, so the more weight we lose, the more money raised.

I thought it would be cool to get a page designed that showed us, our progress through charts, pictures, etc. I am very creative as far as having ideas, but I have no idea really how to create a web page that looks good and professional. I am HTML illiterate. (I think thats what its called that you need to know)

I would like to do this for as little money as possible, but I know there will be fees associated with having a page without pop-ups/advertisements that are inappropriate for what we are representing.

Make sense???? Is there anyone that would like to help me with this??

Please?? I'll do anything you want. Haha, ok, not anything...but I'll think of something! :)

yeah, thanks Jason, I know there are free ones out there, but I would rather pay for a domain name and a hosting fee to be easy for everyone to find...as well as no advertisements. Being a church sponsored thing, I am scared of what advertisements might pop up on a free webpage. Make sense?

Sorry to chime in here so late, I'm working a lot these days, not much time to read the board...

I do recommend that you buy a domain and hosting, but both are pretty cheap. I can send you some hosting recommendations if you PM me.

As far as the actual page. Well, I don't have room in my schedule for any more charity work until April, sorry to say. By then you'll be skinny as a rail, right?

I wonder if you wouldn't find it best to do this in a way that allows you to easily update it yourself? Like by using blog software perhaps?

PM me and we can discuss it further.

Sorry I'm late in on this too. I'm not really a web designer myself - I struggle by, but I'm not that good.

Kim's right, a blog would be a good place to start. They do well in search engines and are easy to learn and update. In fact with an ongoing project like your weight loss thing then a blog would be far better than a static website - think of it as an online diary.

If it were me I'd use a free blog host like blogger where you can set one up in minutes, it costs nothing and will last forever. They dont have ads as far as I know.
    http://www.blogger.com

Or you could use wordpress software and install it on your own domain, with that option you'd be paying for hosting for the lifetime of the site which although relatively cheap is still a cost and it would be trickier to set up.
