Hi folks, just got home yesterday, checked visa statement today... we called home via the payphone just off the lobby, and when we checked the bill today, we were charged 200.00 cdn $$ for 4 phone calls. We werent on 20 min either, maybe max 10 min. No calling cards avail at the gift shop. When we went to the phone we used our visa card. Going to call Visa now and see if anything can be done, but to those of you going down, DO NOT USE YOUR VISA CARD AT THE PAY PHONE!!!
Thanks for heads up !!! Is there any where else to buy a calling card other than the gift shop ??? We will be there in April and I won't be surprised if they sell out again !!!
Sorry to hear about that. In the future, the best thing to do is go the Oxxo Store just up the road and buy the prepaid calling cards. That way there is no hidden cost. We always use the pay phone to call home and found this was the best way to do it.
Shit! That sucks what a way to end your vacation. We always buy the phone cards at the gift shop. We they out or are they not selling them anymore? Can you use the phone cards from Oxxo at the resort payphones?
I've always used my Verizon cell phone. If you set up international dialing ahead of time, the calls are only 0.99 a minute. It's not really that bad for the convenience.
Sorry to hear that!! I learned my lesson going to Cuba one year and made a 1 minute phone call that cost me $75 when I got home.
The one time I needed to make a call I got a calling card...sorry that it happened and good luck with Visa!!
I tryed to get a refund from Visa but impossible, the spanish message when your dialing asks you to accept the charges
