Just trying to get an idea of how much walking around money would be good to take. Planning on quite a few singles for tipping, probably wont venture off of the resort very much.
Depends on the length of your trip. We usually bring about $300 cash for 10 days and we tip everyone.....bartenders, daily maid service, servers....anyone we come in contact with. A few singles or a $5 can go a long way in Mexico.
We take 500 and always have money left over but the airport always takes care of the money left over sh$ts expensive there
We usually budget to bring $50 dollars a day for tipping.. Somedays you tip more and others less. I agree with the earlier post on bringing some 5's. This is the Mrs, so I find it easier to tip at the beginning and / or at the end of having a couple of drinks.. Four drinks for me and I'm little tipsy. I also find it harder to stash/carry dollar bills then it is for the hubby. $ 5 bills makes since for me. Don't forget all the peps behind the scenes. I like to get up really early and hit the prep staff... Tipping the guys working the beach too... Have fun!
Tip in pesos is better for the staff, so they dont lose out with exchange rate at bank, and they can use immediately and not have to go to bank.
I start out with the cost of the transfer + tip, add in about $50 per day from the maid to all the way through the last drink at Paty'Os. Money for the Boobs crusie + tip, yacht trip + tip and a little extra if we want to go shopping, out to a night club or shopping. Mostly $1's and $5's.
We usually bring about $100 per day. I tip the guys at the sexy pool bar $20 1st thing in the morning. $5 at meals, $10 if it's at one of the reservation restaurants. $5 for maid. $10-20 at Paty O + a tip for that 4am burger and fries. Leaves some $ leftover if/when we venture off the resort and is still world's cheaper than when we used to go to Vegas every year! The entire staff works their collective asses off and somehow does it with a smile. Money well spent.
Tip what you can afford,, different cultures tip different amounts, ( some don't tip at all). I tip about half of what others are saying and more then what others are saying , and don't get the feeling I,m under tipping or over tipping. There very few ''waiters'' at patio,s and usually only one at the pool,, if you want them to return , your money will be well invested here. Don't forget the cook Always get a different answer on how they split the tips, almost as big a secret as the start date for construction.
