I love TTR/BBG. While the recent staff dismissals have gotten shallow/selfish minded people in a tizzy, let's get real about why you go to TTR. We have been going to since 2001, and have seen this same bullshit over and over again, when Chinos was fired, everyone swore that they would not be back. It's not the staff that makes TTR a special place, it's the customers/repeaters! Staff members move on for one reason or another, and TTR finds new employees, and they will bust there ass to make your vacation special! You will get to know them and they will get to know you, and you will love them too. We have made life long friendships with other repeaters, we go to TTR to have fun, relax, party, dress up, dance, sunbath, be waited on, meet like minded people, and escape from reality of the day to day grind of work!
This will fire some up, lol. I don't agree with everything you said but I agree with the premise of your statement.
That's kind of where I'm at too, but not in such harsh tones. I always kind of laughed at when the GP went thru this just recently, and all of the repeaters threatened not to come back, and said how the staff was the main reason they went. I never thought TTR people would do the same. I thought they were all about the guest and atmosphere. I enjoyed both my stays at GP and TTR, but I don't spend my vacation money to see the staff. I want to have a good time. GP has changed their concept, and become more tame, so we did TTR. Even with the staff changes I doubt TTR is going to change their concept, and nowhere else you go, for the money, is even going to come close to the fun. I agree Sara 69 was a lot of fun, but staff changes won't effect me much.
Half the people here wouldn't even know Chinos or Omar if it wasn't for the Boobs Cruise. Yes they were staff at TTR/BBG, along with others like Lalo. Bartenders, restaurant workers, front desk staff, all knew what I drank, or knew what room I liked, or maids knew what drinks I wanted in the refrigerator. Yes it's great not to have tell new staff these things, and it does make you feel special when your there that they remember you and your preferences. Things change, but for the most part for the better.
This will be our 8th trip. Chinos was there for our first 4 and we loved it. Since then I'm not sure if the same entertainment staff has been there each year. We have a great time there no matter who is there. We go for the atmosphere and great friends we meet and that return there. After Chinos was let go we had our doubts but found out we had fun no matter who it was. Now he did make the daytime fun something to see but without the friends TTR is just another resort!
Not calling people who care about the staff shallow/selfish. I am saying that people who say that the only reason they go to the resort is because of the staff are shallow/selfish. I care about the staff, tip them well. tell them thanks you every chance I get, and try not to be over demanding like I am the only customer in the place they should attend to. TTR is more than staff, it's an unique vacation, a place like no other! staff come and go, and we still go back. The constant is the repeaters who love TTR!
My take on this situation is that, for us repeaters, it's kind of like Norm walking into Cheers. Everyone knows him, Sam is still the man in charge and the bartender knows what he wants without him saying a word. Yes, the staff at Cheers changed over the years but not at the rate we seem to seeing at TTR right now. So, my point is, I think what has people so upset is a feeling of insecurity about what is happening at the resort given the apparently frenzied pace that well known and loved staff members are being fired. It's not like they left for better offers.
I'm kind of torn on this one. I get your point ScoobyDan, and I agree. However, for us, it's about the bigger picture of what's happening to the resort. First construction (will pricing go up once done?), now key employee changes (in bulk), plus other issues we’ve had with the Premier bookings…… Just makes us a bit uneasy for what’s to come, but still trying to stay positive and open. It’s true I will miss having breakfast with the amazing Sarah 69 and I will definitely miss the smiling face of the very thoughtful Eme who always had my drinks covered. Only time will tell what the future of TTR will be like. In the meantime, Hubby and I are reserving our concerns until after our trip in July. --Ginger
If I (Andrew) stopped drinking at establishments where my favourite server or bartender had left or was fired I'd be running out of places to drink by now and that's a horrible thought lol It's sad when people you feel you know leave a place for whatever reason, I really liked it when the entertainment staff was Sara, Paloma, Amy and Nathan but I still come back for the people we've met and like to hang out with. We've made some lasting friendships and get together regularly with a group of TTR folk here in Calgary.
