I must be getting old. When did the Mexican coaches start wearing a suit? That was a good game and looks like the US team might be on it's way to better performances in the World Cup.

    Time to get hammered, later.

Beaten by the Gringos at your national sport.

That's gotta put a dent in the old pride level.

    Attitude

Overall, the game was OK- the US played a decent game, more like the Mexican team was somewhat off- I couldn't help but laugh as Eric Wynalda has to sit there and give commentary with Bruce Arena, as we all know he HATES him and was chastising him for his very poor performance in the WC- see other post for this-
I cannot understand a few things: first, the Mexican team has ALWAYS refused to shake the hands of the USA- this was supposed to be a friendly game. second- did ANYONE see the fans throwing cups/bottles/whatever at Landon Donovan after he scored the second goal? those people should have been thrown out, and not allowed to EVER attend a game on US soil (and I don't care if it was a Mexican fan OR a US fan). lastly- after the second goal, one of the US players ran past the net (not sure who) and the keeper for Mexico, Sanchez, actually had the balls to SLIDE at the player, with the intent of injury (this was DEFINITELY clear- FIFA should review the play, and he should be fined AND red-carded- he could have ENDED someone's career with that stunt.
We still have a long way to go, but this was a start. :D

Would agree that it was a good result, I’m to the point where any time we get a goal I’m pleased.

This is a pretty nasty rivalry. On more than one occasion Mexican fans have shouted “Osama, Osama, Osama” during the matches. No love loss there!

I didn't see the entire game. I only watched like 10 mins of the game. The Mexican team showed more of the same mediocrity it has always shown. The players who can play at the level of the big boys are unknown to the world. I know they are out there, I played with a few of them that would make the Mexican nacional team look like a team of cows kicking a ball. They just didn't have the right connections or didn't attend a formal soccer school.

As far as the fans. It is a complete shame that a few illiterate scumbags give anotherwise well behave 50k + people a bad name.

I hope the US team plays more often against the big teams and gets used to the real soccer rivals. Even if soccer isn't very big here, Americans don't like second chairs at anything.

as a pure outsider I'd say the US team is going along nicely, sitting well in the FIFA Rankings, some good World Cup showings, a good core of your top players plying there trade in Europe... I can see the US soccer team pushing on in years to come and really upsetting a few

thanks for the vote of confidence yamyam- with the exception of the last world cup, when the only thing worse than the performance on the field was the utter lack of a clue by the coaches (Bruce Arena mostly), we have had some good showings- but we're not quite there yet; on our best day, we'd be lucky to stay with a Brasil, Germany, England playing at 50% of their best-

Well mate as they say, "Rome wasn't built in day" The US are like the Aussies when it comes to sport highly competitive streak coupled with finances, your both playing catch up in terms of what we call Football but at a very steady rate

Nice to get a positive and objective opinion of the US team.

I’ve felt we’ve been this close to putting a competitive side on the international stage. I mentioned in another thread that I think the problem has been the mid field properly servicing the attack. Hopefully those players you mention that are playing elsewhere can bring some of that “offensiveness” back to the national team.
