I went to get our holiday cash today and was told by the agent that the authorities are attempting to phase out USD being used in Mexico. Her information came from communication they had from American Express. She advised me to buy Pesos. Has anybody else heard about this......it was news to me !
Just take pesos, if they are available, since you(probably) would be converting euros to US $ and then whoever gets your US $ would convert to pesos. But if you have US $, they are still aceepted. This topic was discussed in another forum recently.
we just got back (8th trip) and they take USD no problem. The ATM in the TTR gift shop only despenses USD. you don't need pesos anywhere in Cancun. Have a great trip!
And if you take US$, they have to be in good, like new condition, no tears, writing or they are pretty much worthless. I usually get bundles of ones at the bank and alot of $5 bills for tips.
Those $20 pesos bills ($1.68+/-USD) are fun to have at the sexy pool they're made out of a wax paper material, so they're dry as soon as you pool them out of the water, and the sexy pool bartender's all seemed to like them as tips and why wouldn't they they're not soaking wet like the U.S.D. I remember in my college bartending days I worked at a bar that was next door to a "Weight Watchers", and those gals would come in after they're meetings and pull out big wads of wet bills tucked in they're bras from between they're big sweaty boobs, but I still said thanks as I washed my hands thinking what the "F" was that. :icon_rolleyes:
Just returned on Aug. 31 . We used the U.S. dollar and we did not have any problems. They will take your money in pesos also.
Also, I guess I should have added that having a pocket full of pesos puts in in the same mindset as having a pocket full of strip club funny money. :aetsch004:
