How have you guys been handling this? Skip the express check in option and just slide a twenty to the front desk girl and ask if we can be upgraded? What is the likelyhood we can get a room with a jacuzi if we are checking in on a Wednsday?
We have always handled upgrades by email without any problems. We paid the difference when we arrived. Dawn
We have always given the front desk girl a nice tip on check in, and gave her a small box of chocolates once as well. We always get a really nice room and she makes sure any room issues are taken care of during the week we are there. I dont know if a $20 bill will make enough of an impression to swing a jucuzzi room, but who knows. But I will tell you that a tip, a smile and not being a pain in the ass will go a long way. They deal with people complaining all day.
It has seemed to us that it matters to the front desk if your a member or not......we feel we are treated like second class customers on room selection and service at the front desk since we are not members..:aktion060:
One trip we upgraded to a jacuzzi room at check in for $50something a night. The price can range between $40 and $100. But what matters most is availability. In Feb we were fine upgrading on site. In April we upgraded by email in advance and got the drops of love package instead for $100 a night. So if you are going a non-busy time of year I would do it on site. If going a busy time of year then in advance on email.
Just to be clear I didn't expect the tip to cover the cost of room upgrade, I will pay. Who the hell would be that cheap?
We tipped at the front desk as soon as we came in just to get "a" room without waiting. That was a waste of $20. Had to go back 3 times before we got our room. I was nice first two times......ah.....3rd time..........ah not so much.
I've heard some of what they have to deal with at the front desk. It's tough when they have a good portion of the guests leaving along with a ton of early arrivals wanting a room without waiting at like noon. The housekeeping staff can't work miracles...just be polite...relax...get some lunch and a drink...and wait your turn rather than trying to buy your way ahead of me with $20 and throw a fit with the staff when it doesn't work.
From a room perspective Jucuzzi suite. They are on the end of the quiet pool building, facing the ocean. Jacuzzi is inside though. We like the jacuzzi rooms and are very happy with those. From an amenities perspective you could upgrade to drops of love which we loved last trip. Explained in our trip report. They wont give you that. Definitely have to pay.
