((Just received.) "Dear American Citizen: The U.S. Consulate in Merida is updating our database of registered U.S. citizens. You are receiving this e-mail from an older list of registered U.S. citizens that we will be merging with a more current computer based system. To be included in the computer based system, you can re-register through the Department of State’s internet registration system: https://travelregistration.state.gov/. Some (but not all) of you are also registered in the computer based system. If you received our e-mail about absentee voting dated October 1, 2008, you are in the new system and do not need to re-register. If you did not receive that October 1, 2008 e-mail, please take a few moments to register now. Registering guarantees that you receive bulletins about absentee voting, hurricanes, and special events that the consulate coordinates for the American citizen community on the Yucatan peninsula. Registration is both for tourists and long-term residents. While we are always available to answer questions, you do not need to respond to this email. Thank you, Jeff Adler American Citizen Services U.S. Consulate Merida Merida, Mexico"
In other words "we can't figure out how to merge two databases so we need you to re-register." And the marker for whether you are in the correct db is whether you got an email 3 days ago. How very professional of them. Well at least they've stopped sending out Word documents to everyone on their list... That was truly astounding to me...
