We plan to visit the underwater museum (MUSA) on our trip in Jan. There is no shortage of outfits in the area that offer the "resort course" instruction in combination with the museum dive. Some sound better than others, and some come more highly recommended. I think we have found a good one in Scorpio Divers, but the same course/dive is also available at TTR. Has anyone ever taken the dive instruction at TTR? It would be convenient to have the instruction and departure right at the resort, just wondering if anyone has any experience that may help us decide who would provide the most enjoyable dive day.
Worst setup as in it was dodgy/dangerous/disgusting instruction and equipment, or because the dive site is less interesting in comparison for more advanced or experienced folks who have visited other more exciting sites? We aren't spending our vacation at TTR because we are seeking spectacular diving opportunities, :flash::icon_cool: but we definitely want to try strapping some tanks to our landlocked asses and checking out the sculptures! :fish1: We just want to remember the excursion for what the museum is/isn't, and not for any shortcomings of the guide outfit that could cause problems.
All I know about the Dive instructor at TTR is he is from Red Deer Alberta, has to be a great guy.. haha!
boras Is A great guy and dose A great job you would be In good hands I have been on 11 dives with him they were great I asked him about the under water park he said the growth on every thing made it hard to see so we didnt go if you go let me know how it was
Boris is GREAT that is all I can say. He made sure everything was right before taken you out for a dive. I have done 10 dive from TTR and will dive from there every time.
I went with Boris and was his only customer that day. He spent time in the pool to make sure I was ok. Spent about 50 minutes on my first dive it was great. I plan on doing it again this May. I don't think you go wrong with Boris.
Count me in as a big fan of Boris. He is great! Very experienced and capable. I completely trust him. I too have dived numerous times with him. He has worked at TTR a long time, and he is competent and well respected. He has the patience of Jobe with newbies. He is recently widowed and raising 2 young daughters, but is 100% focussed when leading a dive. I reccommend any intersted folks to take the FREE lesson Boris offers in the sports pool and judge him yorself. He will put you at ease and guard your safety I'm sure. If you are experienced tell him you want an appropriate dive sans beginners. He will look after you.
I trusted him so much I went ahead and got certifited while i was there. It was the best thing I did. Well let me think while at TTR it was the best excursion. How was that for the right statement. Well not counting the bobbs crusie. I'll stop there.
To reprat some other posts Boros is a great instructor and will look after you very well. His prices are the cheapest we have found in Cancun and he really earns his money. As someone else has said Cancun isnt a real dive destination and the currents can be a bitch. I have never used Scorpio Divers so I have nothing to say on them. There is something to be said for the convienence of the boat picking you up from the hotel where your staying and for people like us who bring there own gear Boris picked it up from our door and brought it to the boat. I actually have emailed him and the cost is $90 us for the "resort course" which includes the national park fee of $2 (looked into it for some friends that are going to be there the same time as us in Jan.
