Its all good n safe. None of that is remotely close to Cancun. They've been putting these warnings for years to keep americans in the states so they vacation n spend their money in the good ol US

Like anything or any place else - if you go somewhere that you shouldn't or if you look for something that you shouldn't, you might find trouble instead. We've been there several times and never ever had an issue with anyone or anything. Relax, have a good time and while you are at the bar, can you get me a drink?? :)

My wife posted on this same question a few weeks back. You might find the discussion in that thread helpful.

I think we are going to love this place. Everyone is so friendly already....what could be better than drinks, sun, new friends and showing some skin? We may have to make this our yearly treat to ourselves. I was kinda woried that it would be hard to make friends but its not seeming that way!!!

Unsafe to Travel to Mexico: No, it's inadvisable to travel to certain parts of Mexico (mainly border towns) situated thousands of miles from Cancun.

Drug Wars: Yes, but you're not looking into going into competition with the drug supply mafia are you?

Capturing American Tourists and beheading and torturing them: Has never happened anywhere in Mexico, and if it ever did I expect the least likely place would be Cancun.

I'm afraid your 'several people' are misinformed. Please try to educate them because the millions of misinformed people in the States is worrying.

Never let random stories like this cloud your holiday, the chances of you finding trouble are extremely remote.
We were nervous when we went to Thailand last year just after all the rioting in Bangkok....we had 2 wonderful weeks in Phuket and never saw any unrest of any kind even though the UK government was advising against travel
    ;)

Anyway, life without risk is pretty boring eh?

We live 30 mins from the border in Arizona and constantly hear about the violence going on. So far we haven't had a single problem when we drive to Puerto Penasco or when we fly to other areas of Mexico. As for the Mexicans visiting the US....that's another story.
