I don't want to alarm anyone - this could end up being nothing as it so often does, but I do like to give a potential heads up so that folks can follow what's happening and make travel decisions accordingly. It's been a quiet hurricane season so far, but it seems we have some nasty weather potentially heading to Cancun. Here's the current 5 day track, showing a Cat 1 (the lowest category) hurricane by Monday still a long way off the Yucatan Peninsula. It's going to be another few days after that before the system gets close to the Cancun area (if it hasnt already died out or deviated by then). If it continues along it's currently predicted path across open water it is usual that it will intensify further. The good news is: 1) The Boobs Cruise scheduled for Monday 6th August will be unaffected. 2) We are still in the UK, until Thursday 9th so fingers crossed it "should" have been and gone by the time we get back The graphic below will automatically update as time progresses, so keep checking back for the latest prediction.
Best part of that news was the "been and gone" part. Just, here's to hoping it isn't like the one that came ashore at Cancun around 2000 (that the year?). Big time bad news.
This one is now Tropical Storm Ernesto, and you can see Cancun on the track. Still looking like a Hurricane Cat 1 in the area as from Wednesday. It's moving quite fast at the moment which usually means intensification will be slow and any effects short lived. But still one to watch. Cat 1 hurricanes are really not to much to worry about in terms of damage and safety, they bring a lot of rain and some wind but usually fairly benign.
The storm will be well gone by then. They only last a few days at most and this one is moving particularly fast.
Thanks for the update Steve! We'll keep watching .. glad it will be gone before the Boobs Cruise on the 14th...
