Another great trip! We saw a lot of the "usual suspects" from past October trips. And we met a ton of new people, some from the forum, some not. A few answers to frequently asked questions: 1. Chinos is back and pretty much his old self; funny and a great entertainer! I believe he is committed to perhaps a week at Desire somewhere along the line. As always, it can't hurt to include him on your survey cards as he is a great addition. And of course mgt could decide to move him again. 2. Taryn (T) is there for a contract; she doesn't know her long term plans or goals. Chris (nicknamed Alfie by T) is funny and a good addition. A new girl named Brenda just started, she seems like a good sport. Mario was in Chicago running a marathon (3:30 we heard, not bad!). Rafa still the DJ; personally, we would prefer a little less techno at times. Jose & the water sports guys are still unchanged. 3. Daytime activities are not really tamed down IMHO; if anything, Daring Darts was one of the best and most fun we've seen. Chris ran it. Of course a good bunch of contestants helps. 4. Nighttime activities are much more spectator type shows. lingerie night is still the same. Chinos actually wouldn't let people in street clothes play; they were allowed in to watch though. He still has his topless table, and the lingerie contest is still a scream. Other nights: a band (pretty decent) two nights in Paty'os with lot of people dancing. Karaoke 1 night. 2 nights of dance shows by pretty much the same group. A striptease night with 2 guys & 2 girls. It would be nice if they brought back some of the old stuff, Anything Goes, Quest, some audience participation stuff like a few years ago. 5. Cameras seemed a little less prevalent than in the past, not that there weren't a few issues. At least twice, I heard the staff request that people ask before taking pictures of people they didn't know. Common sense would go a long way toward solving the problem. Unfortunately you can't legislate common sense. 6. All four specialty restaurants seemed to be open every day (each used to be closed a day a week). The buffet was closed (except for breakfast) a couple days (depending on occupancy). Tex Mex did not require reservations those days. Other days, reservations were required. You could book the current day plus 3 more, and it was no hassle at all. I went in around 11 AM and didn't have to wait at all to book, and we aren't members. The food was fabulous IMHO, and the service was uniformly excellent. Men do need long pants and closed toed shoes at the Italian and Village Wok. But it's worth it! 7. Weather was hot; rained maybe 4 times never longer than 5 minutes. Other than the hurricane year, October weather has been good to us. 8. As always, the other guests are a large part of the enjoyment at TTR. It's not the place to hang around anonymously and be doted on. It IS the place to go to let loose and have a rollicking good time with a bunch of crazy people! We first went to the old BBG in 1999 and the trip is still a highlight of the year! We'll be back, probably in May 2010 (if not before.)
Hi Tere, I "think" occupancy was in the 40's; we saw something about projected occupancy on the forum somewhere before our trip. Not sure where it was. Over the weekend, there was a large group of Cancun (or at least Mexico) locals on either day or maybe weekend passes. Had a greenish wrist band. We heard TTR does that for locals when it's slow to increase occupancy & revenue. By the time we left Wed. Oct 14, occupancy appeared to be way down. The good news was that the people that WERE there were a fun group. And Don, hope to see you in May as well!
Hi Marilyn &/or Steve, I'm hoping for a fun group for Nov. 9-15, "Singles Week", if it happens. Last year, they cancelled it but it was still fun. Come to think of it, I always have a good time at Temptations-no matter what! It sounds like you had a great time! And thank you for the info.! Tere
best times some of the best times i have had at bbg then temptations have been when the rseort has not been too busy, people seem to have more fun !!! let loose a bit more..
Thanks for the great trip report. I'll be there for Single's Week and Tere I don't care if they cancel it or not, I'm coming down to have fun!
Great trip report! Sounds like a great time. We met Alfie last year...he's fun, a great addition to the team. Counting down the days til we go! D
trip report oct70-14 Wondering about "Anything goes", what was that about? We were there in February and will be going again the last two weeks of November. Confused about "Anything goes" as we did not experience it or have not read anything about it. :? http://www.flickr.com/photos/pt2003
