Hi, Id just like to write up about my first time trip to TTR, i got a real good feel about what to expect prior to leaving by reading this site and got lots of tips so hopefully someone might find my report useful Arrived on June 23-30, just a 7 night trip which was crazy when flying long haul from Europe, the weather was fantastic that day. Arrived at TTR and was impressed with the foyer, layout etc and had a straightforward check in. However over the week I did find the reception staff to be slight stoic if not efficient. I was immediately impressed with my bedroom, spotless and sufficiently spacious with nice interior, shower, TV and a king size bed. Air Con was effective. Plus check out channel 12., I had it on all the time. that and music lol 1st night the jet lag kicked in and I crashed out early so I could rise early next day. Got up and hit the sexy pool and started to soak up some sun. The music started the drinks started to flow and I started to feel like this was the place to be while hanging by the beach. The beach is a great antidote when you just want to chill a little bit or cool down if its hot. As the night fell over the next few nights I repeated the cycle of hanging by the pool, drinking under the sun and meeting amazing friendly great people and having a blast. When night fell we usually hung out at patty o's and mingled and went to one of the theme nights. lingerie night is fun as is karaoke , the numbers attending and the participation vary quite a bit. But there is generally a good vibe going on. On day 4 a tropical depression came over Cancun and it barely stopped raining till I left which limited everything, my days trips went up the river and we ended up spending a lot of time indoor which totally sucked. I did manage to do Dolphinaris and the Wet and Wild theme park whilst so hungover in the lashing rain. Managed to have a good time and party it up as best we could until the 30th even if the weather didnt go to plan. Below Im just summarizing my thoughts on certain areas. Location: TTR is about 25 mins drive from airport and 10 mins taxi to the Centre of Cancun, which costs about $15 each way by taxi. Food: The food is more than you would expect from an all inclusive, buffets are the same every day but fresh and extensive. The restaurants are quite good to really good depending on preference, for an all-inc it represent great value as does the resort in general, Drinks: Were a bit of a let down. My friends complained of cold-sores as washing of the standard cups did not look thorough to me nor them., You seems to need a lot of drinks to get drunk. Wine in restaurants was quite good. but in general I wasn't impressed all that much. I had to drink about 15 drinks to get a buzz. 15 drinks back home would have me legless Activities /Entertainment : The pool side games were quite funny however like the theme nights participation was not full on. The drinking game was hilarious, this little Mexican guy was kicking big American guys asses. When you finish first you put your cup on your head to show you've won, one time this Greek guy jumped into the pool instead of putting his cup on his head )) it was so funny People: The people are of all ages, from generally the U.S, Canada and the U.K with some others Europeans, but the former make up 90% in equal measures. I met some amazing people, the vibe is friendly, nobody would turn their back on you if you had a chat, how great is that. I did come across a few delinquent low life jerks / chavs whatever you want to call them. You will get them., plus there was a few groups of single lads on the prowl with attitude but you ignore them and concentrate on having a good time. All up people were good. Staff: Absolutely fantastic, amazing. Could not fault them, Mexicans in general are humble, funny and easy going, please tip what you can. they work so hard behind the scenes Cleanliness: Truly top job. Cancun General: Really pricey down town and im not tight, plus highly commercialized. Didn't like all that much. Person Verdict: You really Cant go wrong with visiting TTR, hopefully ive demonstrated that there is something for everyone and the place is great value for money. The people you will meet and the staff will make it worthwhile and its something everyone should do at least once. I personally don't know if I would return as I have been to places in the Caribbean that cater to my needs a bit more but I don't regret going for a second. thanks for reading GaryOC
Thanks! Eh For instance I just love high swinging coconut palms and more serene chilled out beaches. I find Dominican Republic gives me that and i find my money goes further !
Great TR......Glad you had a great time even if you wont be returning...Not everyone is a repeater, no biggie!!! I've been lots of places that I enjoyed that I will not return to.
Thanks ! I would never rule out going back, just yearning for my favourite place Samana, DR. If I go back I would make more effort to explore the Yucatan peninsula which seems amazing !
Very fair report! We were there on the same days. My hubby was one of the big guys getting his butt kicked in the beer-drinking ;-)
