Brief background on us. Upper 30's, take one trip each February without kids. Have done 1 cruise, 1 stay at Sun Palace, 3 stays at Temptations including 2 with the week 8 crew, and this was our first trip to GOV.

Checkin... We had booked an Ocean view king room. At our arrival we were told they had a room with 2 small beds available. After a short standoff with the front desk I asked for Valentina. They sent me to the concierge. Valentina was not available at the time but another lady was very helpful and had a room like we asked for within a minute or 2. Another couple from CCC that arrived about the same time was told they had no room available and would have to transfer to the Oasis Sens. Again dropping Valentina's name got the situation taken care of very quickly. They received a balcony room with 2 queen beds. Any trouble with checkin ask for Valentina or the concierge desk and the problem will be fixed promptly.

Room... Nice room, simple, clean, everything worked. Frig was sufficient and the AC worked fine as well. We opted for the room safe option which costs $7 per day but we felt it was important. We were on the 9th floor overlooking the main pool. There is a huge window looking outside with a large portion of it that slides open. The bed had some cool iron work on the headboard that came in handy on several occasions. :)

Beach.... The beach is fantastic, soft white sand that allowed for shallow wading far out into the water. We have stayed at Sun Palace on the ocean side and Temptations. This beach blew them both totally away. We walked around the point to the ocean side and as soon as we rounded the corner it got windy and the waves picked up and the quality of the beaches deteriorated. GOV's beach is protected from the open ocean so there is very little wind or waves. Also, sea weed is a non issue. The beach is where our group usually started the day. There are plenty of beach chairs available and some people brought some floating chairs, ect.

Pool... We spent all of our pool time in the main pool. Around 2 PM every afternoon we would move to the pool. Nice, large pool. Water temperature was perfect, nice swimup bar area. For those looking for a pool atmosphere similar to Temptations, you will find it here. The main difference between the 2 resorts main pools was that GOV doesn't have the early afternoon pool games. Most of us found that we actually really liked that. There were some of the normal antics that Temptation veterans are used to, girls kissing, body shots, AIWC. There is a really good sound system right next to the pool with what I thought was a very good selection of music. Everything from classic rock and hip hop to modern pop with a small amount of country thrown in. Never played any one type of music for very long so it was a good blend. If you are looking for a quieter area, there is another pool close by that you really cant even hear the music at. We stayed in the pool till almost dark every night, the sun is on the pool all the way till sunset, the buildings never block the late afternoon sun. Also the towel hut does not require any identification. Therefore if you loose a towel, you will not be charged for one. Really nice touch.

Bars.... For us the bar service was good. No top shelf booze but we had no problem finding something we liked. The bartenders worked hard and had our drink order memorized in short order, I am sure the tips helped with that. Our wait in line was never more than 2 deep, so in other words we never waited more than about 2 minutes for a drink. We also brought insulated mugs which helped to limit our number of trips.

swimwear... Topless optional has taken off. Lots of women were topless and really quite a few were wearing thongs. There were also a fair number of guys wearing speedos and square cut suits. In other words wear whatever you want.

Food... We ate at the buffet every morning and had no problem finding something we liked from traditional breakfast food to fresh fruit. For noon meals we ate buffet, at the Italian place, and at Mr Wimpys. All the places were good, really liked Mr Wimpys, the food there was fine, but nice just to jump out of the. water and grab a burger then get right back in. We ate at all the specialty places in the evenings. We thought they were all good. If there was something we did not like it was because of our personal taste. The food was always presented well, and cooked well. Staff was always friendly and prompt. We never at buffet in the evening so have no comment.

Each evening we went back to our room about 6:30 for clean up. One of my favorite things about the evenings was that the resort had a saxophone or violin player every early evening playing by the main pool, they are very talented. We would get to our room and open the huge window and enjoy the early evening sunset over the ocean, and the lights of Cancun City, and listen to that sweet music. Usually led to spending a few "extra" minutes in the room.

Each night we ended up at Coyote Bar. Nice place. They had 2 pool tables, stage, small dance floor, large lounging couch, and 2 stripper poles. One night Sara 69 had a couples game similar to what we had seen at Temptation. Another night, karaoke, another was a live band that was fantastic, and another was a sexy strip tease type show. After the shows the DJ would get things going and the dance floor would be full the rest of the night. It does get hot in the bar so our group sometimes moved to a seating area just outside the bar by the pool. Still could hear the music but was more comfortable. Dress was very nice for everyone, plenty of ladies wore some very sexy club type dresses from simple cut outs to one lady that wore fish net. In other words, dress as sexy as you want. The bar does close at 1 as of now yet. Only one night was this an issue, the evening about 10 of us were sitting just outside the bar. At 1, the bar tender came out with about 3 rounds for each of us, thought that was very good service. The other nights we simply could not make it till 1 before we crashed.

We did Steves Boobs Cruise, the legend continues. Not going to get into details but Steve, Chinos, Omar, and the entire crew did another awesome job. It was a great day even if we did get caught in a thunderstorm on the way back.

We did not do the pirate cruise, just didn't feel like it when the time came. We also missed the foam party as we had to leave that day. People from our group that had been there the Saturday before us said that it was awesome.

All and all we had a fantastic trip, very nice resort. We would highly recommend this place to anyone, and will be back again someday in the future.

Any questions feel free to ask!

Thanks, IA. Your group of ppl--did you know them prior to the trip from the forums? Are people as friendly and open as they are at TTR?

Thanks for the details. We are arriving for our first trip here in April.

Was there any pressure to attend a tour as I've read ? We've seen a few photos from other uses and are there more "dress up or dress down " evenings that are not on the resort calendar. We saw some school girl event. Sheer night etc. or are these just groups that are making there own entertainment. Not sure if we need to pack more evening party clothing.

Any other "newbie" tips would be great to here.

    Cheers. Ric and Rebecca
