Well here’s our trip report for Dec. 12 to Dec 26….being as we were there for two weeks just the highs and lows…had some newbies with us this trip my nephew and his girlfriend joined us for a week… Flight was fine…direct from Calgary…only a slight delay…arrived in Cancun around 2 pm…was supposed to take the tour operators shuttle which was a large bus…so we opted to take our own transport to the Hotel rather than wait for all those hotel stops….Temptations is always the last stop!!…paid $60 US and they stopped so we could grab some cheap cigarettes and some beer at the OXXO…was just Karen and I…was well worth the money…other people on our flight arrived about 2 hours after we did! Check in was a breeze…tried for an upgrade but the Hotel was full…they were sending some to the BB Club…had room 1254 overlooking the quiet pool…room was fine…good view/clean/beds were not to hard. The beer/softdrinks/and water were replaced every day. The room had an iron and hairdryer…other than having the batteries replaced in the safe no problems at all with the room. We ate at the Seafood (excellent) and Italian (twice)( even more excellent) and the buffet…being as this was our seventh trip we did not go for Tex Mex or Chinese(both are good)…the reservation system needs a definite re-work…we tried to reserve other nights but after a couple hour wait in line…we decided not to waste the time. After the first wait in line we just went to the restaurant and asked if they had any cancellations…a few bucks and we were usually shown a table. They would allow you to book up to 3 nights in advance so the best time slots filled quickly and you would find that only late times (9:30-10:00) were available…much to late to eat..…but we did have a couple of meals off the resort…Bubba Gumps (cuz my nephew wanted to go) it was ok nothing to write home about…Hooters(cuz we were hung over and wanted wings)…and the Rio across the street (4 times here) still excellent if you are a meat lover. The buffet had a great variety and was very good, breakfasts were excellent… and on Xmas eve they had a special buffet…a seafood spectacular…lobster, crab, scallops, shrimp, cavier, fish, prime rib, turkey, lamb…it was very very good. They also have a new dinner on the beach Sat. nights…there is an extra charge for this $40 US…and they had lobster, steak, premium liquor, didn’t try it but it looked and smelled really good. They also now open the Tex Mex in the morning for Breakfast (sit down…order off the menu). We also just had appetizers at Patyo’s a few nights when we knew we should eat but didn’t want to stop the party. The entertainment staff were awesome…Chinos, T, Brenda, Nacho did a great job as usual…Jose and Manual were also great when they would help out although they were very busy in watersports as was Louis. We love these guys…and being it was Xmas gave them all a little present on Xmas day (Thanks Chinos for letting us secret santa their lockers) We mostly stayed to the resort for the party…we did go to Coco Bongos…and had a blast. This was the first time we went on our own and not with the hotel (did this because the Nephews dates did not allow us to go with the hotel). We went all out and did the bottle service (1 Grey Goose and 25 beers). The bottle was $125 US…$4 buck a beer and then it was $20 pp for admission. We arranged this just outside of the club and the whole process was very easy….again this was well worth the money…were given our own table and waiter…full VIP…don’t know if I can go there any other way now…the service was outstanding and although the tip was added into our original bill we gave even more at the end of the night…it was that good!! Had a great time at the resort mostly bouncing back and forth between Nice Shoes..la alternative…and PatyO’s…had a few really late nights (6 am) drinking and singing and having a ball with new friends. The bartenders were fantastic…Oliver, Gabriel, Jonney, Herbert, Javier, Jose, Daniel and of course Pablo…again love these guys…and thanks to Pablo for getting my nephew completely hammered one night…it was very funny…all night it was “Pablo I love you”….all the next severely hungover day it was “I hate Pablo” LOL.....had a great time partying and met way way way to many people to mention…but you know who you are!! The games were fun…Karen is Miss Iron Woman…and Arm Wrestling Champ…I managed a few Horseshoe and Cornhole Victories as well as Darts….participated all we could as we always do!! On the down side was a little disappointed with the 30 people standing around watching 6…yes 6!!!! (Karen, Me, Chinos, T, and one other couple) playing Wild Tequila Volleyball…I know I look good naked (LOL) but geeze…get in and play….participating is half the fun and a great way to meet new friends…We were not the only ones a little disappointed and surprised…Chino’s was downright pissed…but he let those 30 or so spectators know as only Chinos could do!!! You had to be there…. My nephew had pictures done by the photographer that was there…I am not sure of her name…but their Photos were excellent… They also had Guest DJ’s poolside on Fridays which was something new…Rafa and Alex did a great job keeping the party going as well! The pool itself was a little chilly to some but there was a fairly big Canadian crowd so there was always a few of us die hards in there….they should heat it during the cooler months….had pretty good weather…nice ocean breeze most days…but had a couple days of rain and very cool in the low 60’s… We went to a movie at Plaza Los Americas on our rain day…saw Avatar at the new VIP theater….the theater was great…picture leather lazyboy chairs…side tables…waiters…drinks…reserved seating…don’t know if I will be able to watch a movie in a regular theater again…The mall itself has been greatly expanded…good place to shop and cheaper than the hotel zone….you should know a little Spanish though…..it will help you a lot… Went to the new La Taberna VIP one night for Happy Hour with Brenda and the boys…had a great time There was a crocodile hanging out in the lagoon at Bubba Gumps when we were there…very cool Walked out to the lighthouse on the point one day…very nice spot for photo’s (one’s you can show the family) The New OXXO down the street is very handy… Heads up….the ATM in the gift store only dispenses US dollars…go next door to the small store if you want pesos. Don’t forget to tip…they work hard for you Channel 12 Rocks!!! Well…been rambling on for to long… Took a few photos…hope to have them up soon… We had a great time again and my nephew will soon become a repeater as well…next trip will most likely be in June….Roll Call??? Thanks for all the info. What worries me most now is this reservation system. Last thing I want to do is wait in line on my vacation just so I can make a reservation to eat. You think $20 for the host/hostess gets you a table? Sounds like they really appreciate the tips.
Hey Wade and Karan- Better late than never! As always a great trip report... we'll be writing another one in April. Ken and Joyce
Glad to see you guys had a great time as you always do . Didn't sound like the darts game was as bloody as the time we were there at the same time as you guys were . Can't wait to see your pics . Can't wait to go now !!!
That was a great trip report. I like it when people make the best of their vacation as it sounds i did
