Not sure where you're from but there are ATMs that have both US Dollars and Pesos available (just ask at the front which one to go to). We just brought cash for tipping and external trips. If you buy anything at the resort (spa treatments, upgrades to dinner like lobster or wine) you can charge to the room and pay with a credit card at the end of the trip.
