I know the media blows everything out of proportion, but it does make me a little bit nervous with all the travel warnings. How is the security at the resort? The airport? Anyone witness anything dangerous?
I've had two different friends go over the last month. They said everything went just like normal. No mention of anything unsafe or out of the ordinary from other trips.
There is nothing to worry about, it's about as safe as any big city in the USA. If you don't do anything stupid nothing bad will happen to you, just like at home. Relax
Funny. I never felt safe once we left Philadelphia. As we all know how awesome Philadelphia. Seriously though it gets a bad rap that it doesn't deserve. My feeling unsafe is more about the party being on and us doing things that well normal people should only do on vacation : )
I wouldn't venture off the tourist areas of Philly, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Atlanta, DC, or any other major US city the same as you don't venture off the tourist areas of Cancun. Be vigilant, don't attract attention to yourself (actions, dress, accessories) and you should be fine.
