We have traveled international several times and never had travel insurance for medical and just feel we should invest in that since I have heard of people having large bills if seen for a medical issue. Does anyone have a reasonable company to recommend? Any help is appreciated.
Not American but I would imagine that any travel agent could help you. Typically you're looking at $50 per week for coverage so it's not expensive.
I actually got a policy through my bank that is good for a calendar year for $225.00 total for me and the misses has all the usual stuff including Cancellation insurane $1500 per person Medical $2,000,000 pp lost luggage ect... max stay out of country is 17 days straight but as often as you like. A bit more then a single stay but a bargain if you travel more Also check travel Credit cards Be wary of the pre-existing medical clause the all have.
I picked up ours through the Canadian version of AAA (CAA). For the 8 days we will be out of country medical coverage cost us 28$ each.
You can get it when you book, with your bank or credit cards! Find out from your bank what they offer with your cards or simply add it when booking your trip!!! Believe me, it's well worth it! Arrived on a resort and my luggage never came until the next day!! What a disaster!! I said never again!! Don't take the risk!!! Enjoy your trip!!!
I always get travel insurance when I travel. I usually use travel underwriters (in Canada) through my broker and it is always reasonable. (under $50 for up to 10 days.) Beware of credit card companies insurance (and banks for that matter, imo - even though P&B works for one and will strangle me for saying this.) They usually have a higher premium and do not always cover everything you should want/need/require, or if they do they charge more. ( i.e Medical, death/dismemberment, baggage, trip cancellation/interruption, etc). The best insurance comes from a insurance broker! I always find that visiting your local broker gives a more personalized and friendly service. Look to see that your extended health or student plan (if you are a student) has any discounts or included travel options. Why pay more than you have to?! When I was traveling in May, I ended up in the hospital for 3 days. (I got listeriosis from some yucky food.) Even though I had to pay up front, having the insurance refund me later saved me thousands of dollars. I never travel without and I am glad I don't.
Since a lot of these policies reimburse you when you return, make sure you have a Credit Card with a big Credit limit.
The banks around here don't seem to offer this option nor do the credit cards unless you have one that you pay a membership fee for. So still looking.
Cost us $59 each this time booking through Expedia. We have also used other online Travel Insurance for past trips but can't remember who, just remember I was sick of searching & researching, but with one of those online policies we did need to remove a person and the cruise line wasn't co-operating until I mentioned that I have cancel for any reason insurance and we'll just cancel the whole trip. Then she quickly switched gears and started working with us. Had everything settled in less then 10 mins and another person added which they previously said was IMPOSSIBLE to do.
My work covers me for outside insurance, so I dont get extra. But I always keep my credit card clear for incidences. My niece had 2 stitches, cost me 2800 bucks. Got reimbursed when back in Canada though.
