I just found out that a neighbor of mine was murdered at the Oasis Cancun this morning. She was the General Cashier of the hotel. She was found in her office inside the hotel, badly beaten with her hands tied behind her back and her head wrapped in duct tape. My neighborhood is in total shock as she was a very nice person and a good freind and did not deserve this to happen to her. All this talk about violence in Mexico really does not hit home until something like this happens to someone that you know. Of course, this can happen in many parts of the world, but since we live here, it matters more. RIP.
Has there been any news on this? Sounds like a robbery, since she was a cashier and the murder was in her office. Terrible, senseless tragedy.
Heres what I found on SIPSE: Van a investigar a empleados sobre asesinato de cajera del hotel Grand Oasis - Grupo SIPSE, sipse.com @poco: My condolences to you.
Thank you for the condolences. I know that many people are concerned for the family. It is an unfathomable experience to be in. Obviuosly, she was targeted due to her position in the hotel. The motive was definitely a roberry as Monday was payday and all of the money was in her office. Also, there was a boxing match on Saturday night so all of the money from the ticket sales were there too. She went to work on Sunday and never came home. They did not find her until Monday morning. As I understand, there were no cameras in the area. Hopefully, they will catch whoever did this. Not that it will bring her back, but at least some justice may be served to the ones who committed this murder. It will surely be interesting to see if the police are up to the task and willing to solve the crime. Many people here are wondering if it was an "inside job" as there was a lot of money that has gone missing. Perhaps some companies should change their payroll schedule to shake things up. Right now everyone get paid on the almost the same day. Everyone knows it. The police, thieves, con artists, etc. are all out to get their share around the 15th and 30th of the month. My company switched from paying cash to being paid by a bank card which is a little safer (unless they go to the ATM and withdraw the entire amount all ar once).
News like this makes me absolutely sad. RIP your neighbour my friend. Whoever did this to her deserve to be in jail and hopefully justice will be served. I will be traveling along with my friends to Grand Oasis in few weeks. News like this makes me wonder how safe we will be as tourists who carries cash back in their hotel rooms. Where was her office? At front lobby or outside of customer view?
I am sure her office was on the service level like most are. I work in a hotel, and I am so thankful that the security is as tight as entering any Federal Bldg and there are cameras EVERYWHERE. I am so sorry to hear about this type of tragic even and hope BIG changes are made at the Oasis.
Translated Eric Galindo / SIPSE CANCUN, Q. Roo. - The cashier of the hotel Grand Oasis, Maria del Rosario Carrasco Ramis was found yesterday morning dead, bound hand and foot, also had their faces covered with duct tape. According to information from judicial authorities, the motive for the murder was robbery, since the office was found in disarray and coins were found scattered on the payroll, and apparently the inputs of a boxing evening which was last Saturday. Hotel staff and relatives said the woman, 54 years old and originally from Tapanatepec, Oaxaca, work had to leave Sunday afternoon, but never came home, for that reason the relatives went to the hotel to ask about it. Employees also were asked the cashier generally rare must have been paying the payroll early, but his office was locked. They were playing and getting no answer had to pick the lock and break part of the door. According to the results of the autopsy the woman died around 15 pm last Sunday, and the cause was asphyxia by suffocation. She also received a blow on the left eyebrow. The Attorney General, Juan Ignacio Hernandez Mora, said the preliminary investigation was initiated 1948/2012 for the crime of murder and not dismiss any individual, but will be investigated hotel employees who know the movement of the cameras, schedules and protocols for managing payroll. At 10 hours was reported the discovery of the body of women in administrative offices are located about 50 meters from the entrance lobby, a metal gate leading to a hallway which has access to the parking hotel. According to early police reports, coins found at the site runs, there were papers strewn on the floor as if he or murderers were looking for something. The authorities can not yet define the research that followed in the event, but all indications are that this was a robbery. The last Saturday night in one of the special event rooms hosting the center, located at kilometer 16.5 of Boulevard Kukulcan, we conducted a series of boxing matches. In fact, this hotel is often chosen as the venue for boxing evenings nationally and internationally, and is presumed to handle large amounts of money for these events. One hypothesis being handled is that subjects generally murdered the cashier apparently took the cash from the boxing match, plus the payroll to pay employees. Staff of Expert Services of the Attorney General of the State (PGJE) arrived at the scene around 10:30 hours, for the lifting of evidence. Remained in place for about an hour. According to preliminary data staff PGJE women had no stab wounds. Had traces of blood, but apparently it was because he struggled with subjects or murdered. The public prosecutor of the Common Law (MPFC) did not determine the amount of money that took the murderers, since the representatives of the hotel just would handle the tonnage.
More Information Cancún, Quintana Roo -- This has been a difficult spring for the mega hotel chain Oasis, which operates multiple establishments along Cancún's magnificent white beaches. Security challenges in what is still alleged by the local government to be a completely safe "green zone" for foreign and domestic tourists continue to mount. The latest horrific crime surely won't help business. Yesterday morning (Apr. 30) about 10:00 a.m. the body of María del Rosario Ramis Carrasco, 54, the head cashier for Oasis, was found by co-workers in the corporate administrative offices. She had been bound and gagged, and her entire head was wrapped mummy-like in industrial tape, which produced death by suffocation within a few minutes. The clear motive of the crime was robbery. Ramis Carrasco was preparing the cash payroll, authorities said, which was due employees on the last day of the month. The victim had been dead for perhaps as much as 12-18 hours, but no one had entered the office area where she was working when last seen alive. When Ramis Carrasco did not arrive home after her weekend shift ended family members went looking for her, enlisting the assistance of other hotel workers. Her body was soon discovered in the admin offices. Police say she had been beaten and the crime scene was bloody, but there were no other obvious wounds to her body. They surmise that the assailants executed her by taping to avoid discharging a firearm. The same method was once voguish in the U.S. underworld. This is the third major security event in Cancún's prestigious hotel zone in the last five weeks. On March 27 a Los Zetas drug dealer was executed in broad daylight by a Los Pelones hit team, on the street in front of the Hotel Ibis. On April 5 the leader of a Zeta execution squad was arrested after being spotted on the grounds of another Oasis property. He has admitted to several murders in the city.
