Thanks to everyone for posting advice here and info so that I knew what was I was doing when I got there....it made the trip easier....and I had a blast. I'll try to keep it simple..my experience... The good: Hotel staff is friendly and everyone pretty good with English. Entertainment staff was awesome. Activities were lively and fun. Lots of eye candy, both male and female, for those looking...LOL. Good mix of guests, wide range of ages, and from all over the world. Hotel shops had nice souvenirs and fairly priced. Large variety of food and no reservations or waiting at restaurants. Service was usually quick. And everyone we dealt with was friendly and smiling. Beach is gorgeous and large. Plenty of palapas and lounge chairs. Pool is huge and hot tub is also big. Resort lobby and and areas look attractive. Everything is picturesque and tropical, perfect for the beach vacation I was hoping for. Got a great price at the time we booked regular room, lagoon side, and the resort and the activities and facilities was worth the money. The bad: Room pretty much sucked. We upgraded before we got there to the lagoon, club room #605. It leaked when it rained and was wet all over. The toilet was broken and despite maintenance coming up twice, it was still broken...we had to reach in the toilet tank and fix it ourselves each time we used it....which was slimy and disgusting, and something that should never have to be done while in a "nice" hotel on vacation. A/C didn't work on first night...super hot and humid, maintenance came in and at least fixed that right, or we probably would have left the hotel. Lagoon view was still pretty, but there was horrible noise from buildings down below, so not good for sitting out on the patio. The little cruise included with the "fancier" room was cancelled due to the rain...Basically the extra $350 was spent to have the mini fridge...which was another issue...we kept leaving notes for extra bottles of water and to remove soda and beer....but they didn't do it most days..still only left 2 waters. We don't drink soda or beer and can't understand why they were limiting us on the things we wanted to actually drink. Next problem was that the...elevators were having issues...one would be down for awhile..and they always were slow and quirky. When it rained, which it did 2 days hard, it leaked everywhere, restaurants, bars, etc. Food and drinks....my friend and I weren't that thrilled...everything was just okay....Old Barn and Shangri La were the best. But probably would have preferred buffet for most meals, and it would be nice if it had been open for dinner. Overall impression....we probably wouldn't go back to GP, which is a shame, I love the adults only concept....loved Cancun and the clubs and the activities we did....and the staff....but the toilet issue and room issues was major to me...and my friend couldn't get past the weak and untasty drinks (and that was asking for double alcohol) and she wasn't thrilled about the food either...I thought the food was good enough for the money and I'm not a huge drinker so that didn't matter as much.
Yikes!!!! :icon_sad: Thanks for the trip report. We leave Monday and are hoping the weather improves and that we can overlook the other things.
sorry to hear. ive stayed at GP about 6 times (4 of which is last 2years) and never had room problems....toilet always works, AC is freaking cold (though some nights it feels like they turn it off)....always stayed ocean view but then again i rarely stay in the room...if i am in the room, im either taking a nap, sleeping drunk or hooking up with someone(jk) LMAO
Yeah, I think we just got very unlucky with our room, everything else really was not a big deal, and although front staff was nice, we just got tired of calling down for maintenance, I guess I could have asked for another room, but we were told resort was full when checking in....although it never seemed crowded. The only other thing about the resort was that....it seemed to be a pretty tame place, not the party place I anticipated....but then again, we hung down on the beach during the day more often than by the pool... And as others have mentioned, there really are way more couples than singles or friend groups. But I still had such a great time.....don't worry to those booked already, you will have FUN, no matter what....
its honestly a hit or miss...and depends on which months youre going. i always go during spring break---though it may sound like its bunch of kids but there are actually alot of younger crowd and just ready to party. and beach area isnt that lively....pool and tiki bar all day all night!!!!!
