May 8: Belize Like Cayman, the waters around Belize are very shallow, so this is another tender port. It was very interesting to see the track of how we approached Belize with all its islands. Very squiggly, and we followed the same track when we left. The tender ride was like 20 minutes, that's how far offshore we had to anchor. Our stalker ship must have given up, or maybe it just headed back home after Cozumel. Here again we did not have an excursion booked, but we sure wish we would have. Honey works with someone who goes to Belize all the time, and he told honey how amazing Belize is.... once you're away from Belize City. I have a friend who once lived in Belize. I told him we would be going there. He asked if it is Belize City or San Pedro we go to, and his face cringed when I said Belize City. We found out the night before that the beaches were not immediately accessible from Belize City.... after the Shore Excursions desk had closed. Grrrrrr. We stayed in the immediate gated port area, not willing to throw ourselves to the wolves. **I mean the taxi drivers lining the gate yelling at us we can smoke in their car.** They are by far more aggressive than the 'cheaper than Wal-Mart' guys in Mexico. (Yes, we did hear that on Cozumel! Haha!) Just the vibe of the place wasn't right, but inside the gates we shopped and got a toucan carved out of driftwood. The guy carved 'Belize 2008' into the base. We also bought a cool mask from the same guy. We had lunch and Belikin beer at the Wet Lizard and took pics of the area. I sure wish we would have booked an excursion for this day, but enjoyed the sunshine and heat nonetheless. Back onboard, we immediately booked an excursion for the next day. Definately didn't want to miss out on another great adventure. I took many pics of the islands off the coast as we transversed the same squiggly route back to the open waters. This night there was a deck party. People were encouraged to wear their bath robes. We went, but without our robes. We met up with our 'neighbors' and had buckets of Coronas. They were fun people! They told us they didn't remember running into us on Cozumel! Haha! I told you they were wasted! The ship didn't serve glasswear onboard, so the Coronas were poured into cool plastic Corona carafes. Souveniers!
