May 3: Fort DeSoto Park Ahhhh, Fort DeSoto! I love that place and will always look forward to going back there year after year. As a park, it's not commercialized, and because it's so big, there's never really a crowded feeling. There's so many things to do there. Fishing piers, historic-registered fort structures and cannons, trails upon trails, kayaks for rent, you can take the ferry to Egmont like I did last year... I saw dolphins in the wild each of the three years I've been there. Stop at East Beach for a great shot of the Sunshine Skyway. Not to mention North Beach, which was #1 in the country in 2005. (Once it reached #1 it is no longer eligible for 10 years I think.) Of all the beaches I've been to on both coasts of Florida, I have to say the North Beach at Fort DeSoto Park in the St. Pete area is my favorite, again for many reasons. That is where we got engaged last year, and therefore is sentimental to us. Shells and sand dollars can be plentiful, yet the sand is still nice. Just a relaxing, natural feeling beach. We watched the sunset there and went back to the hotel for food and drinks.
Yes, Michelle... you should check out Fort DeSoto Park! Definately worth a day trip. Like I said, I have went there each of the last three years. I could go on and on about it, but if anyone ever wants more info, PM me. I :lotsoflove: Fort DeSoto!
