May 2: Siesta Key & Venice Beach I felt so much better this day, though my appetite still wasn't there. We ventured across the Sunshine Skyway, and did a little shopping at the Prime Outlets mall in Ellenton. We then wandered through Sarasota and to Siesta Key. I had read all about the super soft white sand, and wanted to check it out for myself. The sand is everything I read about, but that means there's not many shells. Where I was was an easily accessible public beach, so there was many people there. Beautiful beach, but I'm not in a rush to return. We decided to go farther south, and found ourselves at Sharky's on the Pier at Venice Beach. While it's only like 15 miles south of Siesta Key, the sand was a lot more brown, even a little black in it. We watched the sunset on the beach there. I found that area over rated, but I was there and took plenty of pics in both places.
I love that area! My ex has a 2nd home on Longboat Key and we still go there every year for a week.....They are tough on drunk drivers though. We always get stopped whether we are drinking or not. Michelle
There were a few groups on my flight down who were heading to Longboat Key. I would love to check that spot out fo myself someday on my annual adventures in Florida. While I say Fort DeSoto is my favorite, I am open to checking out new areas and look forward to doing so every year.
