    Good news!

Last weekend (May 9 & 10) only about 2000 total international travelers arrived at the Cancun airport. This weekend (May 16 & 17) about 10,000 international travelers arrived in Cancun.

That number is still low, it's 1/3 to 1/2 of what would be normal I think, but the numbers are going up!

That's great news...Hopefully by June things will be almost back to normal. How many international travelers are there normally on average in May/June/July?

It will slowly get back to normal. June is way to optimistic. I would expect July to be 75-80% of normal and for it to not get back completely until the holidays

I'll be there from august 1 for 13 days, so I asume everything will be as usual by then ! Sure hope so, been looking forward for a long time. As long as the nightlife is crowded I'm happy.

Tourist Arrivals by Cancun - Jan and Feb 2009 combined numbers. This will give you a sense of what is normal.

    United States 299,093
    Canada 42,414
    Europe 48,520
    Other 38,745

BVG_Steve - What's normal in Jan and Feb is not what's normal in May or during the summer. In general during Jan and Feb we have around 20,000 foreign tourists arriving per day (more on weekends, less during the week). In May and during the summer that number is more like 8000 to 15,000 depending on the day of the week. May is a slower month than many others, it's a mini-low season usually.

The INM (immigration) web site has year by year data of foreigners entering Mexico, and it's broken down by airport and by month. That would be a good place to get the data. Unfortunately the site is so poorly designed that it takes an extra effort to collate data from it...and I don't have time to fight with it myself these days.

Here's the link to immigration data for Mexico:
    http://www.inm.gob.mx/index.php?page/Estadistcas_Migratorias

You will need to use M$ Internet Explorer because the data is not visible in other web browsers and you'll need a basic understanding of Spanish to make sense of it.

I will try to get some data for this past weekend also.

thanks for the link, my wife speaks fluent Spanish inasmuch as she is from Colombia

I am curious why you say the summer months are slow, July is the second busiest month for me after March. July is always extremely high demand.

Did I say summer was slow? I think I just said that May was usually slower than other months.

    BVG_Steve -
It's been my understanding that summer is slower than Jan and Feb but busier than May. Sorry if I didn't convey that in exact terms.

I can't believe you want to argue about data. I provided you with a link to the BEST data source there is for traffic to this area and so you pick on me?

You don't have to listen to me, just read the data. And if you want to be helpful you can collate it and deliver something in English that everyone here can understand.

    No need to be prickly.
