I read on a recent tripadvisor review that " No room service. Lower shelf liquor- you can't even get top shelf if you offer to pay an up charge- its completely off limits. The best section of the beach is roped off for premier members. " I knew about the room service. How bad is the beach-roping? And can you not get better booze? Cheap vodka gives me a headache... Nope, I won't be going as a premiere member... thanks
We were there last summer there is an area roped off but it is the beach day beds. Top shelf bring it with or get at the airport when you arrive. Room Service - who needs it? The foom is for passing out or playtime.
Top shelf? Walmart in Cancun city has loads -cheap!! And Paty-O's bartenders will hold it and serve it to you only if you prefer!
What do you consider 'top shelf'? I seem to remember that they offer Stoli, Jack Daniels, Canadian Mist, Upper leverl Tequila, Bacardi Rum from reading threads herre. I wouldn't put a lot of weight in what that Jack-wagon wrote on TripAdvisor but will know for myself in exactly 4 days when we are sitting at the sexy pool and sampling everything on the top shelf - whatever it is. If I don't kill too many brain cells I'll come back and let you know what is what. I do know that at the Riu Palace you had to ask specifically for a name brand of booze or they served local 'well' alcohol - just like they do here in OHIO. Still like Jamie's 'Skittles Drink Sampling Strategy. Will have to give that a try one of the days.
We never had a problem ordering Bacardi or Jim Beam. You do have to request it or they will give you something else. We never buy our own, but I know a lot do and have it behind the bar. We've never had any problems with the drinks. You should be fine.:ernaehrung005:
The roped off area of the beach is a joke as far as we are concerned. The loungers were maybe a little more fancy but that was about it, honestly one spot on the beach isn't much different than any other. We met several people who were members and hung out with them "behind" the rope. Security never said anything as long as there were loungers available.
If you tip well, they will always give you the better booze without asking for it. In fact at times they'd put drinks in front of me without me even asking for them
During our NYE trip they had Stoli, Schmirnoff, a Polish vodka called something like Wbyrobba that was very good, and another that tasted like I think that lighter fluid tastes. If you get one of the drinks made out of the unbranded stuff, just pour it out and go get another with one of the better vodkas. The bartenders understand and will eventually quit using that for your drinks. I really like the convenience of having one of the waiters bring drinks to me around the pool, but the language challenges make it almost impossible to get the vodka I want, so I just stumble up to the bar myself:daveandmo: The roped off areas on the beach are small and won't detract from your fun.
