Looking to do something extra while on vacation. Would love to go to markets and snorkling sounds like fun too! Is it worth it to all who have been there? Or should we spend our first trip to TTR at the resort and take it all in!
You have to go, we love it over there, very laid back and relaxing, we've taken two other couples over and they have called it the jewel of cancun. We are even considering our next trip we may spend a couple days over there. If you go on the other side there is a place with a sign that says Beer so cold your teeth will hurt. Awsome place. Our first time over we went by booze cruise, after that we went on our own taking the water taxi about a 15min trip for about 15.00 return. That way you can spend the whole day there.
Yeah I would say do it. We have done it twice. You can book it at the towel counter down by the sexy pool. I'm sure there are other options to get there as well but that is the one we did. its like $50-60 per person but you do get a all day trip. with lunch and open bar (on the boat) included. They will stop and let you snorkle and take you to shore and give you some time to do some shopping on the island. My only suggestion is if you do book the trip from the towel shack the morning of the trip when you check in they will try to sell you a $10 open bar wrist band. This only covers the one hour tops your at the lunch stop. Water is free there. You can booze it up again when you get back on the boat. Save the 10$ a person say no to the "open bar" wrist band. If you really want a drink with lunch just by one you'll be a few bucks ahead when its said and done. We made the mistake of buying it the first time, round two no wrist band we just got a bucket of like 5 beers for $15 and saved ourselves $5.
Take the ferry - any and every day. You can also rent a golf cart there and tour the island on your own. Worth ever penny. Golf cart will fit 4 so get another couple and make it a day!!
We love to go snorkeling but we have been put off after seeing a documentary about the Casseopae jellyfish. Apparently it is small and you don't even feel the sting but 48 hours later you are really ill. Has anyone come across this one ?
I agree, take the ferry and you have the day to do what you want. You will meet the nicest people. During the hurricane the town (island) was about destroyed and they had no crime, none. We were there a few months after the hurricane and one of the local bars by the pier showed us a video of the aftermath. Their building was covered in about 5 feet of sand and it was removed with shovels and wheelbarrows. We drank plenty of inexpensive beer and they made us free grilled chicken dinners, with all of the side dishes. Of course they got a real nice tip. We are tempted to stay in a rental apartment for a few days and experience the life of Isla.
Funny you had me thinking about this one, while we were there on the quiet side/ beach, Jeff waded in the water and seen one, then I went and had a look and we seen about 6 or seven, I couldn't figure out what they were, they were laying on the bottom and looked like they were upside down, I thought they were dead, used a leaf a flipped it over... duh!! but it pulsed away.. didn't touch it didn't know what it was.. now I do. I didn't see any when we went snorkeling just in the very shallow water close to the beach P.S. we seen these on the Cancun side we didn't really check out the beach on the Isla side. They pretty much look like this photo
