Well a week away from our first trip cannot wait. I have saw so many post on tips just wanted to get feedback on what is a good tip and who should we tip? Thanks
Just bring at least $200 in ones and use your discretion. I tip bartenders, the guy that drove me there, the luggage/room showing guy, the maids, the waitstaff, etc. Bigger tips went to the bartenders and the specialty restaurant waitstaff. 2 words ' sexy coffee'
Thanks! I figured tips for drinks for sure and the maids. take it you tip dinner as well? How much do for the maids and how much at dinner? I heard that they like $2 bills is that true?
They do like $2 bills, but they won't spend them. They keep them. Also for people who don't know, if you are giving american money and it is torn. They can not exchange it. They have to wait for someone who they know to exchange it for them. As far as the tips go. Give what you feel is adequate, but remember that they are there to try to make your vacation as good as possible. Thats goes from the bartenders to the cooks to the maids to everyone.
Muah!!! You're the bestest We will have to get our dates to cross so we can do sexy coffee together.. dammit!!
When we went last time we were like you.. read so much on tipping. However bill and I have spent many years in the service industry so we get the importance. TIP (for our friends that don't know) means "To Insure Property Service" . So we would tip the bartender anywhere from $5.00-$10.00 when we went to the pool in the day and same for at night in Patty'o (sometime more). Breakfast & Lunch $5.00 and dinner $10.00 maid $2-$5 a day. One thing I noticed in much of the reading is most will tip bartender upfront... which we did and found the service to be stellar! We will will be doing so again on this trip next week see you there.
Tips or no Tips - if you smile, are polite, gracious and friendly - you get great service at the bars & restaurants. The staff are excellent. Someone advocated tipping the maids a few dollars and a US candy bar - so we tipped a Hershey bar & $3 every day. We tipped about $15 a day. $3 maid $2-3 breakfast $5 bartender $5 dinner
Thanks pretty much in line on what I was thinking. I am one that is I receive good service I will tip very well.
