Hi everyone My wife and I are planning our first trip to Temptations and Mexico in general. We want to make sure we take care of everyone who takes care of us and we wondering about tipping. Seeing there are so many regulars on this form we thought it would be better asking here than asking Google. Who do you tip, how much and in who’s currency does everyone usually tip in? Thanks for any advice
We tip heavy, everywhere (USA transfer guy, check-in, bag guy, bars, room, buffet, restaurants, towel guy, strangers.....) as I have both bartender and pizza delivery guy on my "early development" resume. It works wonders and goes to those who work way harder than me for way less than me!
Everyone has a different philosophy on tipping at an all inclusive resort and in MX. We believe that the staff works their asses off for us so we can enjoy our vacation home, hence we tip many times ahead of service...”to insure promptness”! If you PM I will enlighten you on how I tip and to whom. Typically runs around $75 -100 US/day when said and done. Of course sometimes more for extras and special requests. Also driver to/from, busboys, etc. We bring the following denominations: 1,2 (lucky), 5,10,20,50. Avoid 100 to make it easier.
We figure at least $50 a day in tips while at the resort plus transfer greeter at airport, transfer driver, greeter at hotel, bell hop, return driver, baggage handler at airport, ...Even if you are tipping a buck for each drink service it can add up....figure at least 20 drinks each a day, .....snack server, Lunch, supper, room service, towel boy, mini bar stocker, maid, turn down service, butler, concierge, restaurant hostess...etc... If we ate more and drank more (kind of light weights) it would be considerably more.
