Hi! Can anyone help tell me which is best, to tip in CAN$$ ,USD$$, or Mexican currency, as I have heard different things. Thanks!! Also, how much is a decent tip, I do not want to insult anyone with a poor tip!
In order of preference I would say... Pesos (easiest for them to use for obvious reasons) USD CAN I would say the equivalent of a buck or two for a drink or round (a bigger tip at the start or end is fine too) Five bucks for a meal a couple bucks a day for the maids Feel free to tip more and if you skip a few tips here and there don't get too worried, the resort staff isn't too uptight about it. So from Regina? Any ideas on who they will get to fix the Riders for next year?
Sorry to ask, but coming from the UK what is a buck equivalent to in pesos? Also do the bar staff expect a tip for every beer they pour? We dinna mind tipping once a night but every time? Surely not.
Okay Derbytwo, here it is: 1 buck is equivalent to around 10 pesos (give or take 2 pesos) No, the bar staff do not expect a tip for every drink they pour. You can do what I do: at the beginning of the evening I tip them 60 pesos (around 5 USD) and they will take care of you like a king. If the service is extra good, another 5 at the end of the evening would be nice.
And one thing to remember is that, at least for the guys and ladies at TTR, you will never insult them with any tip you leave. They truly do appreciate any tips they get. They will treat you great even if you don't tip but do tip since their wages are the shit. And one tip that you can give them all night long and won't break you bank is Respect! They all have name tags and addressing them by their names goes a long way. You would not believe the number of folks that walk up to the bar and say "Hey Paco! I need a beer right now!" Trust me; Paco doesn't work there, figuratively or literately. But treating them as people will get you better service than if you tip them $20 a round... although $20 a round and I think they would all let you call them Paco! But you get the point I hope. The staff there can make or break your trip. The TTR staff does everything in their power to make your trip the best you’ve ever had. So when you’re figuring out how much to tip, just keep that in mind. Jamie
Never heard of anyone called "Paco" so no worries about that issue. We are not inexperienced Carribean visitors, last was Cuba, and also Jamaica. I would not be best pleased to be called "Jock" so will make a point of observing name badges. As you do anywhere. Pete
I usually bring about 100 x $one,s and 20x $5,s for bars and meals, 20 to 50 $ for the maid, per week. Some people have complained about the tipping, but it's amazing how a five dollar tip at the beginning of the night, or a buck a round , will make your night more enjoyable. I have never felt I had to tip at Temptations, but you can feel and see the gratitude in their eyes when you do. :beer4: = $1 = :sunny:
Good on ya Pete! You sound like you know the score. I was flabergassed last year when I was sitting at PadyO's and this guy actually walked up to the bar and slapped it and said "Hey Paco - two beers!" All the bartenders looked at him and continued helping the customers they were working with. I looked at him and laughed and said "Paco has the night off.. you could be waiting a while.." I ened up with two drinks for that one. Jamie
Not too sure on the ethos here so... After near 30 years in the oil business I have a wee feel for the feelings of others. My beloved is of the same mind. Treat everyone as you wish to be treated.. and hope for the best. If you push me I'll google and quote you R. Burns... LOL
