Hey everyone....In the Cancun Information forum people are saying stick with pesos now for tipping being as it is getting harder for the locals to exchange US dollars. Just thought I would pass this information on incase some poeple didn't know or it wasn't discussed. We were there in August and used all American money for tipping and they seemed very happy. Also friends of ours used 2 dollar bills and got a great response. So I'm also wondering for people that have just been there what they thought about the tipping???????????????????? Steve maybe you could help as well. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've never known anyone who didn't appreciate a tip! But if you are choosing which currency to use I would pick pesos. It makes it easier for the staff who use those tips when they go shopping etc if they don't have to hit a currency exchange or bank and end up losing out on the real value of your tip in my opinion
Thanks...I'm just confused because I was always told that the staff love US dollars so thats what I have always used but if they appreciate pesos more than I will exchange this time
Every time I've tipped (which is usually 70% of the time $1 us , except by the pool where I'll give Suzzana $5 us in the morning, which gets me good service all day) I have never been asked for different currency, but just got a big smile of appreciation. Ive noticed alot of people don't tip but should. The staff work long hours and put up with alot but ive never seen one loose their cool . Most people on this site are cool and tip, so bring some dollars or 2's if you can afford it.
I always tip...I just would like to make sure I'm giving the staff what is easier for them becasue they do do such a great job and I agree they are always just very appreciative of what you give them.
We have never been to Temptation before but find that they really do appreciate any tip they are given, US or Pesos - I have a friend who lives in Mazatlan Mexico and works at a resort. I know how much they make a week and it is really pennies - so anything you are willing to give do it and it will be more then accepted and not go unnoticed.
I guess my point of view, which I think Steve would agree, is that in terms of practical use a tip in pesos is easier for the staff to make use of than one in dollars. I am sure it's not a big inconvenience for the staff to exchange their dollars for pesos but it is an extra step for them to go through.
So this may be a stupid question, but can't the staff spend the US dollar the same as us there? We use US dollars when we shop and they just give us change in pesos.
