ok everyone, I know that tipping is important and appreciated, i just dont know how much to budget for all the tips. how much for maids, batenders, and so forth. also, should we tip us or pesos? im getting sooo excited and dont want to forget anything. ohhhhhhhhhhh also whats the best way to call home? should we get a phone card? Im going to call alltel and see if they have international minutes if not i was looking for ways to call the kiddos. thanks
if if u are gonna use the pool staff alot i usually just give em 20 bucks for the day .. some like to tip $1 bills that they bring from home too .. at night at paty o's i usually tip like 5 and alternative bar maybe the same
We tip with ones, Tip the maid about 2 to 3 bucks a day, waiters a the buffet about 2 bucks a meal, bartenders many many bucks depending on where we are, waiters at the speciality resturants 5 to 10 bucks, bell boys 5 bucks. Some people tip more, some less, others tip none( they really piss me off!) Hope this helps. Terry
I would tip..Thay work to make your stay nice..$5 for bell hop...$5/$10 for maid ( she'll keep your frig. stocked ) $10 each day for pool bar..$ 10 for Evening bar...$2/$3 for waiter at buffet...Never did specialty dinners so you on your own with that..Have fun..
We usually tip the bellboy $5, maid $5 /day, waiters at the buffet $3-5, waiters at the specialty restaurants $20 and bartenders $1 per round. We try to split it up with the bartenders as much as we can to keep it fair. Works out to about $500-600 for 10 days. It may be a lot but they work hard for our enjoyment and they do need it...we factor that amount in to our vaca costs. Scott
We prefer to tip in bulk as we stay for 14 nights so daily tipping would work out very expensive. we usually tip each bar, our maid and our waiter on the 1st day and on the 1st day of our 2nd week. The more you tip the better service you get, it's that simple. They deserve every tip they get.
hav n fun like they said the more you tip, the more attention you will get, thats just the way it goes
Thanks everyone, this really helps alot. we tip at home but wasnt sure what the customs were in cancun. this is our first trip.
I usually bring a stack of $2 bills since its half the size I have to carry around. But I do have a question for the regulars. Of course you tip the bartenders to avoid being sober and the waiters so you dont go hungry, along with the many others around the resort. But, what about the entertainment staff? Is there a code for them?
We tip about the same, although probably not that much for the buffet or for lunch. I usually tip in advance at the bars, and which saves fumbling thru ones and keeping them dry. Tipping with a larger bill seems to eliminate any waits at the bar. I don't worry much about spreading out the tips at the bar, as I am sure they know who tips and who does not. I am sure tips are very important to the staff at TTR, however a smile and some genuine respect for the job they do goes much further.
