Truly is a buyer beware thing. We are members and it is not the deal we signed up for but a lot of that was because of RCI. Our biggest complaint is that we can always find a better deal for a stay than we can get as members...and that is NOT a good thing when our contract states we get a discounted as memebrs. This has been an ongoing issue for a lot of people. Some people are happy with their contracts and a lot are not. Guess it depends on the individual contracts...and there is a huge amount of room in the negotiations. Regardless of the outcome, it is in Premier's favour. Well to put it in perspective ... We just spend 1053 taxes in including flights for an all inclusive week at a fantastic resort we would love to return to .... My impression of a time share is that you get to use it at no cost for so many weeks / year .... plus a maintenance fee Is this not the case?
The packages have changed so much in the past 10 years, For instance I couldnt wait for our package to run out cuz I had no intention on redoing it, simly because I could go for cheaper through alpharooms or something like that... However after going in September and seeing the new and improved policies and packages it may be worth me taking a 2nd look at.... as far as your other question, the answer is no, that is not the case, you pay an all inclusive fee on top of your maintenance fee etc. I believe I paid about 129 a night in September.
I'm not a Premier member, but we had an RCI "Weeks" membership for two years. We were only able to use it once because we had such a hard time finding availability in places we wanted to go during the time we could travel (we never checked TTR--we were trying to stay in the states. Mexico and the Dominican Republic seem to have better availability.) If you are really flexible and willing to go anywhere, or if you can take your vacation any time during the year when a room opens up, I think you might get a good deal. However, under our package, you paid a "maintenance fee" of $350 a year to the parent company, $199 a week at the resort, an extra fee if it was an all-inclusive ($40-150 per person, per day, depending on the resort) and your a la carte airfare. So, it wouldn't have come out cheaper than booking a package online.
It truly all depends what you are looking at it for. Im one of the people who thinks I got a good deal. But i will tell you, I didnt buy until the 4th time. you have to do the math, and understand when you are going etc. 1053 for a week with flights is ridiculously good. if you are measuring it off that its not going to be a good deal. heres a simple example. in sept, i can usually find alpha rooms or funjet/apple for around 110-130 per night for two people. over new years when im going its 250-300. so its a lot easier to cost justify use when its high season.
We are Premier members. Bought a membership during our initial stay. We are anxious to experience the membership to it's fullest. Cost is definitely an advantage. We are looking forward to the benefitsof being members such as liquor, vip, etc...
you get to sit in the empty beds nobody wants, private lounge and bar, but the party and all your friends are buy the pool. ps I can get some of the same drinks for a dollar tip, or ask them to hold my bottle
We don't perceive our membership as a timeshare. We are members of a resort and have benefits I clyding RCI (which wasn't a selling point). We negotiated and got what we wanted.
