Ali and I have casually tossed around the idea of getting a timeshare (or whatever they call them) and I noticed there are a few available for sale privately, like here: Timeshares - Temptation Resort Spa Cancun Timeshare Resales and Rentals I'm wondering if it's safe to buy these, is it a full ownership and rights transfer and does the resort consider this a "legal" method of obtaining one. I know I should probably contact the resort but I thought someone might have some insight.
Buyer beware!!! There are a number of different deals that are out there, all too numerous to list. What it boils down to is knowing what you want out of the deal and structuring it to that. What you want is most likely not what someone else has already. We have been going to TTR for 10 times over 3 years before the plan changed to what we liked and our vacationing habits. Even then we negotiated for what we wanted from the deal and then signed. We would not have found that out there in the open market place. They financed the deal at 0% so it was a no brainer for us. Know what you want and hold fast and they will deal with you at TTR esp. if you are a repeater and they know you have talked with other members.
Every deal is different. You don't actually own anything at TTR so it's not your traditional time share (unless there are other deals out there that I haven't heard about). Premier membership is actually prepaying for your hotel at cheaper rates and getting reduced all inclusive fees. There are many perks with membership (some good, some so-so) and most of them are negotiable along with what you pay for membership. You also have the option of RCI membership so you can transfer some of your weeks to use at other RCI resorts. This part is very confusing and after all the fees and hassle really doesn't save you anything on vacations. We like the deal we struck, because we like TTR and it has worked for us, but everyone has a different situation so be very careful about getting into something your not sure about.
