Seems that some reporters are actually coming to Mexico, people who are having great vacations are returning and the truth is coming out. Following are things I have gleaned off the web just today and the video that the U.S. Consul put out with testimonials: 1.- Let's start with an exposè on what happened when "Recently, my daughter, Pauline, tangled with a famous television talk-show host on the question of tourism to Mexico - and held her own." Arthur Frommer http://www.theledger.com/article/20090321/NEWS/903225015/1326?Title=TV-Blamed-for-Fear-of-Mexico 2.- From the L.A. Times "Readers Weigh in on Mexico:" http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/latinamerica/la-tr-spot22-2009mar22,0,5464878.story 3.- And Arthur Frommer again in the Miami Herald: http://www.miamiherald.com/living/travel/caribbean/story/955376.html 4.- This is a video that the U.S. Consul for the Yucatan Peninsula did and has testimonials from tourists. A low-budget film for sure but lends credibility to the "Come on Down to Cancun--no pasa nada" push. It is embedded on the Hotel Association website--just click "play." http://www.ahqr.com.mx/ingles/bien.php# One potential black mark was news about a dangerous murder suspect being arrested in Cancun yesterday. Wonder how they will spin this one. http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/dpp/news/Murder_Suspect_Captured_in_Cancun_032109 If anyone else finds anything similar (good publicidad or truthful reporting), please post so we can refer "questioning minds" here.
Jim Arthur Frommer's article was good and it was a syndicated article so it probably appeared in hundreds of newspapers across the USA I can tell starting 2/24 bookings for my condo rentals dropped big time for like 3 weeks, but over the past 7-10 started picking up again nicely and we are pretty much full for most of April and May now in all 12 units
Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't Arthur Frommer also publish a travel magazine as well? I am thinking that he publishes Budget Travel or something like that. So I am sure that his view will get out among the masses.
Certainly the Frommer's Travel Guides are amongst the most popular offerings from Arthur Frommer but he does have Budget Travel Magazine as well, along with web sites devoted to both, and a weekly syndicated radio travel show. The madness of Mexico being caught up on what I call the U.S. media disease of the month(s) club is that the media resource material refutes much of what they've been preaching regarding Mexico already and they still somewhat continue to refuse to heed the updates, clarifications and corrections reported by many in lieu of the irresponsible reporting. Perhaps, with Frommer's leading the way as a voice the media will listen to, we'll be able to concentrate the efforts to overturning the media bias, as well as the bias seen at various levels of U.S. institutions, including the US and Canadian University and College scene whom through wide spread localized alerts have done just as much collateral damage as anything else out there. In a rather ironic sidebar, just a few days ago reports of Spring Break violence in Florida caused a minor stir regarding a shooting, balcony fall and general mayhem associated with the SB scene but only registered a blip on the media wave, and hardly spawned a banning of any travel to Florida in the U.S. Old news was blowing across the filthy floor, and the sign on the door, said this way out, that's all it said...
Having news people arriving in Cancun today from both the U.S. and Canada should help take the spin out of the "no-spin zone."
