I am going to get flamed for this but I don't care. We have been to Temptations twice, had a great time and loved the people we met. LOVED THEM!!! They were a blast and we are still friends with them today. However, this resort is a dump. There I said it. It's a dump, and we have never been back again because of it. Now I know people are going to label me a 5 star snob for that comment, cause that’s what they do. But I’m not. I don’t need 5 stars. As a matter of fact, it would be a huge mistake to make this 5 stars and I think management knows this. But would it kill us to have a little nicer resort? A resort where the rooms don’t regularly flood? A resort where they actually have a night club we can go to? Is that too much to ask? For years, I have been searching for a place a little nicer then Temptations and have not been able to find it. Now I have. I welcome the changes. As a matter of fact, I am down right giddy about them. I know of several couples that have gone to Temptations, loved the people, hated the resort, and have not come back. Now they will. And these are not the “no fun” crowd. These are fun partying people that just want a little better accommodations and food. Keep in mind, this resort was the first resort built in the Hotel Zone 40 years ago. It desperately needed an upgrade. Any sane person would say that a 40 year old hotel needs a remodel. And to the chicken little crowd, I just want to say “Lighten up Francis”. Before we slay Temptations management (which has been easy to do lately), let’s give them the benefit of the doubt and see where this goes. There are a lot of rumors out there. My favorite is the $500/night. Everyone keeps saying that $500/night is going to ruin the resort but have we ever heard Temptations say they’re going to charge $500/night? I for one highly doubt that unless it is a peak week. In addition, who said this was going to be a 5 star resort? I will bet anyone on this board right now that this resort will be no more than 4 stars. Just because it is new does not make it 5 stars and it won’t be. Even Desire Pearl is only 4 stars. In my opinion, this resort needs to be 4 stars. Will that make it more expensive? Yep. Will it be $500/night? Nope. At the end of the day, the market will determine what the room prices will be. Like any business, they will charge what the market will bear. In closing, right now it seems like everyone is focused on the negative. Can’t we focus on the positive? We get a brand new resort in 16 months!!! We will actually have places to hang out inside if it rains. They will probably have a night club, better restaurants and more of them. Did you see the stripper poles in the mock up? I mean come on. Let’s stop being Debbie Downers and start to get excited about what could be, not cry about what once was. And waiting 16 months is going to make us that more excited to go when they reopen. I’m pumped.
Last week I was told by a long time employee/premier the rates would be in the $500usd range. Ive hears 7 months, and 9 and 10 , now you say 16 ?? looking at the plans/video, I would put my money on 24 to 36 months ( I have construction back ground) renovations often take longer then new construction
I dunno but this sounds / looks 5 star to me... have stayed at a few 5 star places compliments of work...you know the places where the bathroom is bigger than one's living room, has 11' foot ceilings and your wake up call comes with coffee served in a silver coffee pot on a silver tray with silver spoons... "our concept will be refined and elevated to offer a guest experience in accordance to the highest international hotel standards to the chic, confident and free-spirited world traveler." Just saying IMHO
You are right on jflanne. I agree with your post 100%. I think you'll find there's a VERY vocal minority on here who will whine/cry/speculate about $500 nights and 5 star this & that, and there goes the Temptation we know and love. I believe the majority (albeit mostly silent) of us are excited for the exact reasons you stated. We love the vibe, but ya, the place needs some work. No, we don't go there expecting the best accomadations, but if you scroll through these forums you'll see post after post of complaints about the: A/C, mold, restaurants, paint, chairs, food, beach, whatever. Some people are just scared of change and there's nothing that will ever change that. But let's just pump the brakes a bit on the doom and gloom, and how none of us will ever be able to afford the new resort. Nobody knows (what the cost will be) and I don't give a shit (for now).
