You left because it was the Marines 234th anniversary?

Seriously though, with having such an obvious 'gringo jingo' attitude it's not surprising you didnt have best possible experience of living here.

And this relates to the 234th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps because...?

It's obvious from the passion that's caused you to type so quickly and carelessly that you had a terrible time during your stay in Mexico. You've expanded on that theme here in this forum before. Perhaps you can explain to those of us who are mystified by this latest fusillade (excuse the military jargon, but it seems apropos) what the !@#% you're talking about.

And of course, I have to ask, were you ever a United States Marine?

Gene - Mexico wasn't good for you, I can relate to that. But you don't really need to keep bashing Mexico (if that's what you are doing), do you?

If you are happy to be back in the US, then be happy about it. Don't keep looking back.

Mexico is a large and complicated country. There's no possible way that we can all have the same experience of it, or of the Mexican people.

there must be something you miss about Mexico as you seem so reluctant to let go_Otherwise why do you still post on this forum?
Whatever good you still hang onto in Cancun try to remember it.

Loving your country is one thing, looking down your nose onto another country is another. There are a lot of qualities I admire in the people of Mexico. I am sure if I came to your hometown I could find people that I didn't like or societal norms I found odd or alien.

For example us Canadians on the whole can't understand the reluctance of the USA to adopt universal healthcare, not that I want to open that can of worms it's a difference of opinion I have with what is apparently the popular position based on what I can glean from the media.

I suppose at the end of the day what I am saying is one of those priceless pearls of wisdom hammered into children from a young age... If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.

Cultural differences will sometimes drive us nuts...but they sure do make life more interesting.

Being married to someone from a different culture than me has taught me a lot about diversity. Everyday in my house is a culture clash. But we both learn and grow all the time from our clashes.

I read an article recently that talked about how it's easier to get universal healthcare passed in a country that is more culturally or ethnically homogeneous. I have no idea if this is true, but it makes a certain amount of sense that people will want to take care of "people like them" and will not be sure they want to carry the burden for people who are vastly different from them. I'm not saying this is right, but I can see how it would make sense to some people.

Personally I also think that Americans still have this "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" independent attitude, I think that also makes many of them lean away from universal healthcare. They think everyone should be responsible for their own destiny in every possible way.

But universal healthcare is a moral issue for me. No one should die because they can't afford care, and no one should need to declare bankruptcy because they got sick, that's just insane.

Wow..Mexico would be so much better for expats if there were no Mexicans there to sully it.

I find it bordering on idiotic that someone would speak so negatively and so broadly about an entire nation of people on forum peopled with many folks who are married to or cohabitating with Mexicans.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE for you to share your thoughts about the Mexican people with the family I married into. While they might not be your cup of tea, they would be gracious enough to laugh it off and try to feed you and get you to chill the f* out with a beer...oh wait, lemme guess...you don't speak Spanish worth a damn!

Hmmm...guess Molotov knew of what they speak in that song Frijolero when they called Americans those three precious words that I won't type here! Have you at least made a donation to the Minuteman, especially since you threatened to turn mojados in if you came across them in the US?
