It's been really interesting and informative reading through these pages - thank you. We are now in the final countdown to our 2 weeks in Cancun - we arrive on the 1 November. Really looking forward to it. Just a couple of queries? Just how much do people dress up in the evenings? And how little do women actually wear? (before I drag out the suitcase and try squeezing everything in). Do we need to bring toiletries such as shampoo/conditioner/shower gel? I notice a few others have mentioned the same earlier - but don't recall seeing an answer. We would like to go to a club a few times - but aren't up for it every night. So - we are hoping that there will be enough people left in the hotel to get seriously wasted and silly with  Can't wait :lotsofmichaelf:
Hey guys, We will be there Nov 2-9. We have been numerous times before so I will try to answer some of your questions. Take your shampoo and conditioners. The ones supplied are small and not the best products. We even take a large bar of soap. The small ones are just that, too small. Clothing: during the day, you will only need a swim suit. We take a couple just so that you don't have to put on a wet one the next day. My wife only takes bottoms and a cover up to put on to go and eat lunch with. The rest of the time, topless for her! Topless is done by I guess 60-70% of the guest when we have been there. Nudity was not allowed last time but from what I understand there are times when it does happen. I have never seen any pressure to do anything that you do not want to do. I take clothing to wear at night so that I can mix and match. two or three slacks/jeans and shirts that can be worn with all of them. That way, you have 4 or 6 outfits. Shoes to mix also. Other than that, not much else is need, maybe a pair of sandals to wear to/from the pool. Some clubs/restaurants require closed toe shoes so make sure you bring some shoes and not sandals. You might think about PJ night. That is fun to participate in and watch. We don't care to leave the hotel. We have in the past been to some of the tours and as you probably read, the TTR has trips to bars at night. Make sure you check out the activities that take place at TTR and bring clothes appropriate for that. With the people you meet and the activities at night, we have found it a blast just to stay and talk with new friends and drink among friends. They used to have a Disco with nightly dancing, don't know if that is still the case or not. Also, read my post reference Spa Treatments. We did that in Los Cabos and enjoyed the HELL our of it. Did it two days in a row!!! Not sure what else to say. Enjoy your trip and look us up. We will be there around noon on Monday, 2 Nov. And don't worry, I know of 10 people that will be there so that is more than enough for fun and games!! Get to know Chino, he is one hellva host!!!! Party Hard!!!! SEE YOU THEN!!! Any other questions, post a note and I will try and answer them. Have a safe flight and get some rest en-route, you will need it!! hahahaha Dana and Maritza
Just read your spa post. That does sound enjoyable. Hope you gave them a big tip, lol! See you there, Marc
Thank you Glad we're not going to be the only ones in the hotel after 10.30! We may go out to a club once or twice - but if company is good in hotel; we'd rather stay in and have a laugh. We arrive on Sunday afternoon. We'll be easy to spot if by pool - Jan has a tattoo of butterflies and flowers covering her back. Thanks for advice re clothing. Ok about daytimes - quite happy topless. Have now found another thread showing a few photos of a few "outfits" worn - so now know that I can be brave and travel a little bit lighter if I dare  See you there
I always take my own shampoo/conditoner as I have long hair and the hard water and sun just takes a toll on it. After our trip if there's any left I just leave it behind. I don't mind their bars of soap...just going to put oil on my skin once I get by the pool anyways. I take 1 pair of jeans and a few pairs of capris and some skirts. We're there for two weeks so I end up wearing some clothes more than once. I always take a sweater as well because I tend to get cold easily. Go! Enjoy! Come back again next year! Diana
I forgot One other thing. Tipping is NOT required! We normally take some USD (we are from Texas you know) and tip the maid and especially the bar tender. It does not take much normally and they WILL take care of you for the time you are there. Makes for more fun, the bar tender will remember you and you get service a little faster plus these people work their butts off to please you and make your vacation the best. Well worth it!!!
Re: I forgot Not required but really appreciated, just as respect and a great attitude is appreciated. The ent cast makes our stay a blast, and we tip them as well.
Re: I forgot We never thought about tipping the ent cast...our bad...way BAD on our part. Have to rectify that on our next trip!!! We pretty much tip all of the staff that does anything for us as they do work thier butts off for us to have an enjoyable and memorable stay. Not uncommon for us to tip $500-$600 or more during a 10 day stay. Trust me when I say that we are not rich by any means. We save for tipping the staff. $1 per round of drinks, sometimes $5 to cover a couple of rounds, $3-$5 for breakfast, $5 for lunch, $5-$10 for dinner at the buffet, usually $20 at the specialty restaurants and the maid $5 per day. Adds up quickly but exceptional service deserves very good tips in our books. Worth every penny of it!!! AND they do need it as well. Just our humble opinion on the matter.
The staff at TTR are the best anywhere..whether you tip or not. I'll admit that I was very stingy the first time I went..only tipping the maids. I was saving my funds for all of the activities that I had planned to do off the resort. It wasn't until my last night at TTR that I realized that I hadn't even left the resort the whole week!!!!!! One of the best things about this place, is that you never feel the need to leave (ya might miss something!), and that is largely due to the amazing staff. They won't treat you poorly if you don't tip...but everyone likes to be appreciated and the easiest way to let them know that is to slide them a couple of bucks every now & then!! BTW..in regards to packing: make a list of everything you think you will need....then cut in in half!!!! You'll still find that you brought too much
the way we make our packing lists, we start at our feet and work our way up.....shoes, socks, pants, shorts etc. X days then cut in half
