Cinemex, fka MMCinema, at Paseo Cancun, seems to have closed. Friday I looked online, found a flick and went to see it at 9:40 pm. There was a gal at the door handing out $25 coupons the only other Cinemex, which I have no idea where it is. What is typically Mexico is that Cinemex recently acquired MM and did a very extensive remodeling, even putting in a coffee bar. The prices with MM had been $35, then $37 then $39 over the last year. A month of so ago they went to $43, still a bargain compared to Cinepolis at PLA. Oh well.
Sorry to hear that, T.J. The choices of films available there was nearly always broader than the competition. I now wonder if that mall will survive, even in its new encarnation.
I heard they closed because there was an accident with one of their doors. (Supposedly it fell on a little girl, but that's just hear-say.) Not sure if the closing is permanent or temporary?? I've been to the new Cinemex twice (once at Paseos and last night at the other one, which is hasta casa de la chingada, as the locals say). Looks nice, but definitely a smaller selection of movies. Many movies (mainly ones geared toward kids) are only offered in Spanish. I remember when it was MM, they would offer some movies in English when no one else did! Oh well. We saw Transformers 3 last night, which was only available in Spanish even though it's a new release. Tickets were only $35 pesos, though
I was at Paseo Cancun yesterday and the Cinemex is back open, as if nothing happened. It was early afternoon and not many customers were present. I asked "how is the person who got cut but the glass" and the gal had no idea what I was talking about. Bottom line is that they are not closed. Thanks Gringation.
